i’m doing a practice run and it appears that non-residents register as guests. i just hope my spot will be reserved as i enter my info onto the site.
thanks for the help @hakimimj . i was able to grab the 735 tee time somehow. i wasnt able to get online until about 7:25 but the 7:35 tee time was still open! If anyone wants to join 2 guys from delaware next thursday on muni, go grab the other two spots. it’s the only time open in the morning.
I’m down in Kiawah now for family spring break and played the Charleston Muni on Tuesday. It was a fantastic experience. The fairways are not in great condition, but the course shines around the greens. I don’t have much experience with template holes, so this was an absolute treat and I enjoyed myself thoroughly despite scoring higher than my typical rounds. The highlights for me were the punch bowl on the front nine and the redan and road hole on the back nine. Bonus: pace of play was respectable for having a full tee sheet (4 hours).
I played one round at Cougar Point this week, skipped the Ocean Course (played it a year ago and couldn’t justify paying the $$$ again this year), and played the Muni. In my opinion, the Muni is more enjoyable than anything at Kiawah except Ocean Course.
glad to see you back!
do you think I would be ok bringing my 7 year old to play? He’s obsessed with golf and we play a par 3. Just worried about it not being a kid friendly vibe. I keep him moving and we pick up on par 4s after a few shots.
Of course! When I played there I saw a few groups with kids close to your son’s age.
Played Muni based on this thread when I was in town for work a couple weeks ago. Just found out I need to be back in SC next week and while I was on my work computer booking flights/car/hotel, I was in my phone booking rounds at Muni on Monday and Thursday.
I must avenge myself on 13 (road hole template).
Definitely. If I brought my 9 year old I probably would’ve dropped a ball around 60 yards out and let her play pitch-and-putt. The vibe was really chill the day I played there.
Yeah, it’s a great course for kids. Very easy to walk (except for crossing to 10 tee).
Anyone want a 4 some at the Muni Sunday morning, fairly early? I booked two back to back but having trouble with people backing out. I have it at like 8:18
I’ll need to ask permission but color me interested.
Guess I should clarify, you need someone to take the full foursome or need some more folks to fill them out?
Well potentially both. I booked 2 foursomes but people didnt realize it was easter at the time of booking it last sunday so now most have backed out. Right now its me and another guy and potentially a 3rd for one of the foursomes and then the other one is completely open. I think either way we have a spot open for you if you want haha.
Shot you a DM. I’m in for tomorrow morning
just seeing this… I probably could’ve played but don’t think I’ll make it there in 18 min.
Hey, folks. I’ve recently settled in Columbia after 10 years in the Lowcountry and trying to find a home course. I’ve been playing a lot out at Oak Hills and today played LinRick, which would be a fine nine-hole course but the back gets a little wild. Played out there a bunch in college, but I forgot how quirky/arduous some of those holes are. Greens are in good shape, though.
I’m intrigued by a previous poster who mentioned Ft. Jackson might offer civilian play. I’m also interested in the possibility of a non-resident membership at Camden CC, since it’s apparently only about 35 minutes from me. I prefer to walk and like the ability to squeeze in a quick nine during the week, which might be tough with Camden. Hoping to get my kids into the game.
I would be down to join a group at Aiken GC or Charleston Muni sometime, having played neither yet. I can also offer some insight into Beaufort/Hilton Head golf if anyone has questions.
Hope everyone’s well. Looking forward to hanging around here.
I 100% know they at least used to do this. Since COVID hit, not sure they offer it anymore, but you can call the pro-shop and ask. Played there last week and it’s in good shape.
Not sure where you are living, but if downtown or NE area, I know Spring Valley had a membership drive a week ago.
Thanks, Will. I’m in the Forest Acres area. I’ll call out to Ft. Jackson.
No problem. Since you’re in Forest Acres, I would look at Spring Valley too. I am sure Northwoods has a membership program, but not sure it’d be worth it with how public it is. I head out that way whenever we do an afternoon 9 since it’s closer to that side of town than Oak Hills and LinRick
Have a friend and I coming June 24th/25th and was going to play True Blue and Caledonia. Caledonia is aerating so we can’t play there. Any recommendations of places to replace Caledonia? We’re staying with a friend in Florence and were going to drive to Myrtle both days so we’re flexible on the location. Otherwise we’re just going to take a rest day as we are playing Mid Pines, Pine Needles, and Tobacco Road that week as well.
Play True Blue twice. It’s the better course anyway.
