Roll Call: South Carolina Golfers

Would it be possible to join for just one of the rounds? Interested in Mount Vintage if it’s the Chester/Vintage routing.

I second playing Forest Hills instead of Midland Valley. Also I think most of the local restaurants around Aiken are closed Monday and Tuesday. I could be wrong, but when I have visited around those days food always seemed to be an issue.

Anyone want to play Orangeburg CC this Sunday around 11am?

Fellow Carolinians, I need convincing that Harbour Town is a good golf course. I’ve obviously watched the Heritage and went to the tournament 2 years ago and walked the course. From what I saw it looks…really dumb. 17 and 18 notwithstanding, the claustrophobic feeling I got from the abundance of trees made it seem like any timeshare/neighborhood course built in the 70s and 80s. Reminds me a bit of the Plantation Course at Edisto, which punched me in the face constantly with all the trees. Not to mention I really hate the now dead tree in the middle of the fairway on 16.

I get it’s a longstanding PGA Tour stop and will I likely play it at some point? Probably, but it just seems more like a course you play to check off the list rather than one you look forward to playing because it will be fun.

Ultimately whether you like a golf course is up to you, obviously. HT is claustrophobic off the tee but the trees seems like they’ve been there. It doesn’t feel like overgrowth from bad management. You can move the ball both ways and the conditioning has gotten better (a noted sore spot in years past). The set of par 3s is also really good I think. In the end, some people will not like it due to the tightness, but that’s the only real drawback I see.

Here’s a full course tour.

@Randy @Tron @djpie Hey guys I saw the BMW Charity Pro-Am in Greenville is no longer on the list of events. Are you guys not coming this year?

Same week as Gearhart event and couldn’t swing it this year. Will be back strong in '22!

Makes sense. Didn’t even put 2 and 2 together when looking at the calendar.

Damn, always been out of town before and will miss you guys again!

I am actually moving to Aiken at the end of June. I can not wait to jump in to the golf scene!
I’m going to join Houndslake CC but look forward to playing AGC a good bit and hopefully playing some of my favorites from our time in North Augusta.

We are working this trip with the Strapped parameters in place … hence the original choice to visit MV over FH. I’ve played both several times and actually enjoy MV’s layout more than FH.
Brad hasn’t played Forest Hills yet so we are going to play it Monday afternoon with the walking twilight rate. This will help us with the Strapped vibe.
Just booked our Air BnB today. Looking forward to it!

We have 3 for Mt. V and possibly a 4th.
I am hoping to play the Independence/Chester routing but understand that we get what we get that day.
We are playing twilight (2 PM) at Mt. V so I don’t see why a 5-some can’t be in the cards if our current fourth confirms. This is fun planning something with the Strapped framework.

I hear you on this. And felt the same way prior to playing it over Thanksgiving. I had read enough negatives about the tight layout and limited design (a lot of that on here) that my expectations were much lower than what they should have been for this level of course. We played Old South the day before ($75), then got the twilight rate at HT ($250) the next day.

Old South was the better value, but I thought HT was tremendous, maybe due to my lowered expectations. The par 3s were great, I still was able to hit driver throughout, and the course conditions were flawless. Finishing up on 17 and 18 at sunset is one of those special memories.

If I lived near Hilton Head and had those two choices available, I would play Old South the majority of the time. But I wouldn’t hesitate to join if a friend said they were coming to town and wanted to experience Harbour Town.

Fellow Refugees/Nesticles/Dishonorable golfers. I’m coming down to Charleston for a bachelor party from NY and have the Ocean Course lined up for Saturday. Additionally, I picked up a 9:48 am foursome at Charleston Muni on Sunday the 25th before the rest of my crew arrives. Would love for some locals to join and sherpa me around. Anybody interested?

@Akarito was kind enough to tell me to call out @hakimimj @martin @ThreeJackCity @PVH-CHS @charlestondawg @Fore20

Hope some of you can make it. Please message me if you want a spot.

Calling all lowcountry folks- we’ve created a WhatsApp group. It’s in it’s infancy right now, but hopefully more will join and we can use this to really facilitate getting some chat going which then turns into some great golf opportunities.

Here’s the link:

And QR code (for the tech savvy):

I assume (hope) you won’t mind some Midlands folks who are down in the lowcountry often joining?

Not at all, if you’re willing to play in the lowcountry or talk about golf & golf adjacent things (but not necessarily all the things going on in NC because it makes you jealous of those guys playing Pinehurst and TR every weekend), you’re welcome to join.
