Yo who was up in our neck of the woods on a secret visit?
Anyone played The Areo Club in Myrtle Beach?
I have when it was called ‘Midway Par 3’. They closed it down a couple of years ago, sold it to a new group and with some help from the city and renovated it. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it since. New greens, new hitting mats, new tee boxes, cheap beer.
They’ve also started hosting small tournaments out there and trying to get more of the locals involved which is nice in a town usually catered to tourists, which is understandable.
The Chas Muni is really going in hard on the golf platforms between Fried Egg and NLU. Not a bad strategy at all to reach out to these companies. Good way to #GetInvolved with the larger golf world.
I looked to get a time as a single today. Nothing. All day. Not a single open spot. Hit up the range at National instead.
Hoping to get insight from the locals. Would you play Yeamans, Country Club of Charleston, or Kiawah?
Have a group meeting up in Charleston this summer and 2-3 of us are getting in early to play one of the above. Day after the larger group will be playing Charleston Muni.
Yeamans or CCoC hands down.
I’ve only played Kiawah and CCoC. If I had to split it between 10 rounds, I’d say 7 at CCoC and 3 at Kiawah(assuming you are referring to the ocean course. It would be 10-0 if it were any others). Country Club of Charleston is one of my favorite courses. Kiawah can be fun if the weather is kind. Otherwise it can be absolutely brutal. It is also slightly a hassle to get to the ocean course if you are staying downtown
Absolutely Yeamans or CCC. If I had to pick, it would be Yeamans for sure.
Very helpful. I was leaning Yeamans and my buddy was leaning CCoC, main reason for the question. Then saw Kiawah happened to be #1 on Top100 and figured I would ask for sanity check.
Yes. 100x yes.
I’ve never played Yeamans but it’d be 10 Ccoc/yhc 0 ocean course.
If I’m on a trip with some buddies I’m picking yeamans over the country club. I love it but feel like I’m walking on egg shells at ccc.
Thanks again all!
If I’m honest, most looking forward to Charleston Muni. Got to know Troy Miller a bit up at Lake Presidential in MD so can’t wait to check out his recent work.
I’ve played Ocean twice and Yeamans around 5 times and CC a good amount and I would say Yeamans 100% no questions asked. If I had 10 rounds I would probably do 1 Ocean, 2 CC and 7 Yeamans. Ocean is awesome because what it is but it’ll beat you up so once is enough and its $$$ (stupid IMO). CC is awesome course with terrific green complexes but after playing it a couple times it can be redundant. Yeamans has the vibes, greens, layout and most importantly the best land IMO. Its got amazing rolling topography that make it a much more interesting course than the CC.
I need to make more friends. I’ve been living here 4 years and never played CCC, YHC, or Bulls Bay.
I know you probably have a pretty solid answer at this point, but I also want to point out that after the renovations at Muni it is a pretty comparable course to what CCC is. They’re about 5 min down the road from each other, so a pretty similar surrounding. Yeamans would be a completely different experience.
Hey y’all so I am taking a trip out to the Charleston area next week but can only golf on Thursday. I see that the weather isn’t looking too great and was wondering if it was worth it to take my clubs along with me. Was hoping to check out the redone muni.
Yeamans for sure.
I’d maybe go yeamans 6/ccofc 3/ocean 1. (Also noting that Ocean would easily be the most expensive of the bunch)
Agree the muni is similar to CCofC and actually has some holes that are a bit cooler (the punch bowl there is amazing). Of course it’s not nearly in as good of shape, but you really can’t go wrong with any of these.
