Thank you for your service
Fully support @LukeBoatright’s endorsement of HT. While it’s common for people to shit all over pga tour stops, HT is a legitimately fun course. Lots of character, memorable, etc.
I feel like Ocean Course and HT are similar. If you are going to HHI or Kiawah, it is worth splurging and playing them at least once. They are probably both overpriced but very cool golf courses(for completely different reasons).
Side note, I am heading to Kiawah in a few weeks with my wife. I’ve played Ocean and Cougar in the past. We are doing the offseason deal at the Sanctuary again. I’d like to play one of the courses I haven’t checked out yet. Does anyone have a preference on non Ocean/Cougar? I believe my wife booked Turtle, but I think I can change to Osprey or Oak
Turtle gets you ocean holes but I think the new Osprey is preferred from what people have said.
Don’t play Oak, course is outside the Kiawah gates and isn’t anything too special. Paying for the Kiawah name but is way overpriced for what you get.
I would play Osprey. I believe they redid it a few years back and it is supposed to be really nice now. Would not recommend Turtle, the two holes on the ocean are the only thing it has going for it. Other than that its your typical run of the mill Nicklaus course (hit a fade into tight tree lined fairways).
@MarkCaldwell also nailed Oak Point, you are paying for the Kiawah name.
Any armchair golf architect that follows the Fried Egg should be able to find the error in the yardage book for 16.
I played Osprey in January of 2020, haven’t played the others except for the Ocean but definitely recommend Osprey. Its a fun round with several short par fours and the corridors are fairly generous which I hear is the big complaint with Turtle. Also the inland lakes and marshes make for a pretty scenic round.
I played Ocean and Osprey a few weeks ago.
Osprey was in excellent shape, it’s convenient from The Sanctuary, pace of play was great…no complaints at all.
I actually played really well at Ocean but got abused by the wind. My caddie was also pretty terrible, which made the experience a little less fun.
It was the third time I’ve played Ocean, and I’ll always recommend it just because it is something you really must do if you’re down there, but Osprey was more fun this time around. It is a great palate cleanser after you get ejected at Ocean and start to doubt whether you really love golf.
That is hilarious you mentioned Andy at the Fried Egg. I listened to his Kiawah podcast that came out Sunday. As you can imagine, he didn’t have favorable things to say about Turtle…
I always use the slope to feed the ball towards the hole on a Biarritz…When the pin is in the swale…
Love playing those spots, haven’t gotten out to Holly Tree yet but my best friend is currently hounding me to join at Green Valley
How is Green Valley? The mid am is there this year and I’m not sure whether I want to make the trip.
It’s solid enough. Depending on conditions but I would say it’s not worth playing the tourney solely for the golf course. I’ve got a full course tour on my site if you want to check it out.
@anon29849602 @LukeBoatright @tigergolftraveler @Churchie @MarkCaldwell @bluehose @EZmiss @Chippycut @Akarito @tres_carlos
We have two tee times next Thursday Feb 18th 1:04 and 1:12. $30 with cart or walking.
Weather one week out looks wet. Let’s set a date of Tuesday the 16th for commitments.
Thanks.
Just read through the course tour and it hits the nail on the head. I love playing there and its a solid course that is even better when the conditions are in order but wouldn’t go out of my way to play the tourney for the course. @Chippycut
Very cool website as well by the way, look forward to getting lost in a rabbit’s hole on there very soon
Awesome-so tired of this weather already.
Probably out. On top of Dad duty due to wife’s work, youngest has a Dr. appt at 1130 downtown that day (on top of it’s her bday that Dad forgot about) and I have to get her there and back to daycare.
Life is really getting in the way of my golf game and I need it to let up soon
Forgot about this development… Looks like they are still chugging along in Sumter.
Edit- I think it is semi-open now. Added pictures from Kris Spence Twitter.
Supposed to go preview it soon with a friend. It will be a great addition.
Is this place supposed to be like a Congaree in Sumter? No membership details on that website
