Headed to Calabash, NC / Little River SC mid-April for a bachelor trip. Looking to play 36, have drinks and play some money games. Any suggestions for courses in good shape. Looking to keep budget under $60 a round but willing to stretch it if there’s somewhere we can’t miss. Open to anything and throw in any food/drink spots as well.
No idea on pricing because you’re going to be going in prime season I believe. In that area the best is going to be Tidewater and Thistle. I like the Pearl and Oyster Bay. Both have lowcountry golf and some golf on the water way. Glen Dornoch is also usually in really good shape. If $60 is your ceiling or close to it, you might have to pick your courses based on that.
In terms of “can’t miss” in the area it might only be Tidewater.
Go to Camden CC
I was about to recommend Tidewater as well and then realized that they’re charging $200(!) for mid-April. That’s crazy. I’m lucky to get the local rate that’s about half price most of the year.
That’s what I’m saying. I guess my post was out of touch with prices. We have a family house at Sunset and we play in late summer for $30-50 a round. Crazy for April
I’d personally say Tidewater is not worth anywhere near $200. Didn’t like the course much personally.
Honestly, no course down here is worth $200. This area is in need of a major price adjustment.
They’ll keep charging it because people keep paying it I guess.
Are you talking about golf in North Myrtle, South Carolina, the US, or the world?
I’d consider instead spending $200 on calabash shrimp and calling it a day.
@FlyingWasp Hey man, I play a bunch in that area when visiting the in-laws. Out of all these suggestions, and without driving down south 30-60 minutes (Pine Lakes, World Tour, Caledonia, Pawleys Plantation, etc), I’d agree with @EZmiss on Glen Dornoch and Thistle.
Glen Dornoch is a gem. No houses on the course - every strike sounds like a cannon. Great location and views. Tipping out is a super fun challenge.
Thistle has 27 holes so definitely aligns with the goals yall have of getting in 36.
I’m pretty sure they have a replay special too. Fun layout and sandhills-type of bunkering on many holes.
I’d pony up on the budget a bit. Play both courses, show the boys a good time and have a blast.
Hell yeah thanks for this. Yeah realizing we way lowballed the budget but guys are comfortable with it so we’re going to check it out. Can’t wait to tee it up
Posting this here in case anyone here wants to come play a charity scramble on Monday the 28th at CC of Lexington. One spot available all paid for includes food, drinks, and tee gift. Noon shotgun start.
PGS! Go play golf with this man!
Not looking good at all right now. Do we have any idea what happens if we get 2” of rain Saturday as currently forecasted?
Unknown. My guess is a big sad reschedule mess. Forecast not getting any better. I’ll be surprised if an update email doesn’t go out soon.
Take a look at River Hills. New greens and bunkers. It’s in good shape and should be close to your budget range.
Thank you kind sir I will take a look
Greetings yall -
Couldnt find anything specific in the travel thread - figured this was the next best place.
Heading to Kiawah this fall for the wife and I’s anniversary - as this will be our maiden trip wanted to inquire on any sagely advice - must visit restaraunts - well likely stay in the sanctuary - are the “club level” rooms worth the extra $
And on a more topical note - after the ocean course - if i can get 1 or 2 more rounds in - any advice on the other offerings?
Thanks in advance!
My bro in law is a member there. Great course and club….I definitely recommend if you have the chance to play.
