Howdy fellas. Recently discovered No Laying Up and have been binge watching the strapped boys. I’m a 4.9 and I’m playing a ton of golf trying to get my game in shape to try (drop my handicap to 2 or below) and qualify for California State Am tournaments next year. I play at Admiral Baker North 3 weekends a month and hit range balls at stadium golf all the time. Always looking for playing partners serious about trying to get better.
Also RIP Torrey North renovations can’t be done soon enough
So what’s the local consensus on Rahm’s scummy drop on 9 at the US Open? I played the south course yesterday and hit a massive hook over the fence into scripps. Took my “free” drop and made par. We counting that?
If I recall he hit it over a temporary fence that was before the permanent fence that separates Torrey and Scripps. I guess the temporary fence was to create a path for cart traffic.
I guess I understand it and disagree with it at the same time.
Hi all…I’m going to be in San Diego for work in a couple weeks. Trying to plan golf for the afternoon of 7/28. Anyone interested in meeting up for a Wednesday afternoon round? Staying in La Jolla, but flexible on location/cost/etc. I’m a ~9 hdcp, coming in from Michigan.
If you are interested in squeezing in as many holes as possible around 5pm, I’d be willing to sherpa you around a local course. If you want to get 18 in, I will be at work
Is anyone here an SCGA member and interested in playing in the SCGA Foursomes in Whitter (OC) August 30-31? Honestly seems like a blast, I’ve never done it. Looking for a partner. May post in the OC/LA county threads as well. I believe you have to be a 7.4 hdcp or below.
Is the 0-3 day, non-resident tee time category for Torrey Pines generally useless? Had a trip to Tahoe for Labor Day weekend get cancelled because of the wild fire and we pivoted to SD this week. Not super interested in playing TP, but figured I’d give it a look. It’s almos exclusively sold out, but didn’t know if that 0-3 day category had tee times reserved to be released every night or if it’s just whatever is leftover that they haven’t sold yet which usually means its totally sold out.
Yeah tee times are booked out a minimum of a week out by residents, trying to find a tee time within three days is 100% luck. Residents spam the tee time website at 7PM when the spots open every day. Non-residents would be better off reserving further out but these days it’s still pretty hard to get a tee time.
Best chance is to walk up early morning at that point to get put on the wailisitng list and wait for a no-show.
Admiral Baker greens are rolling really really well. Course is in great shape. Played by myself after work. Skipped a few holes but got 14 holes done in 2hrs30 min.
If you’re looking to book a resident tee time a week out, probably pretty hard unless you try reserving right when they are released. If you are willing to pay the fee to advance reserve you can get a tee time pretty easily in the future.
Oh, I also thought you meant Torrey. Baker is pretty tough just like everywhere good in SD, military get to book one day in advance so morning times are tough to get. If you don’t mind playing mid-day and are willing to go online and book 6 days out, you can get times.
Book through the website here and click on southwest region. You will have to make an account.
I have navy pilot friends so they get the times! Ha
