Recent member and fist time poster here. Relocated from Monterey area to San Diego (La Mesa) last year. Shocked by how much more difficult it is to get tee times in this area. Hard to coordinate with the current social group due to kids, conflicting schedules etc. 10ish HC trending down. Looking to get a bit more involved and maybe join a few open tee times from time to time. Any recommendations?
What a day! I had a blast at Torrey Pines yesterday. We won’t talk about how many balls I lost, or my decision to carry my bag.
Hey - Moved back to SD in the summer and looking to find some regular rounds around the area. Sounds like I need to get involved in the SD Roost. Could someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!
Great to hear I will shoot you a DM and get you on slack and I will add you to the LowCal roost page
I live in Carlsbad and I’d love to get connected with the San Diego area roost as well. I’m an 8 handicap and mostly play early mornings
Hey fellas, just moved to South Park and looking to get involved with golf in the area (or surfing, tennis, vball).
I played off a 3 once upon a time, but there’s no chance I can make rent and play off that these days, fair warning.
How do I get involved in the Roost and slack?
Hey guys, this probably isn’t the best thread for this, but the trip advice thread is pretty bare. The wife and I are headed to SD the week after next. I have a tee time booked at Torrey already and am looking to add a course or two. I’m going to try to get a tee time at Coronado tomorrow, but there’s mostly only singles open right now. How late is too late to start a round and get finished?
As far as a line up goes, Coronado, Torrey, and maybe the above mentioned Goat Hill? Any suggestions to avoid or switch those assuming I can get decent tee times?
Goat Hill is fun and laid back, I’d say perfect if you want a stress free round.
And Coronado is slow so expect five hours minimum.
Balboa Park is worth trying if you can get there, I’d actually play that over Coronado but that’s my personal taste. Coronado is too windy for me.
Thank you! I’m not tied to Coronado, it was just one that came up when I googled SD golf and I saw it talked about here. Both of us will be more than happy just drinking a few cold beers on a laid back course as grinding through a round.
What time does it get dark out there?
Right now it is before 6 but after 3/12 & daylight savings you can probably play until close to 7PM
My two cents, on a vacation I would play Coronado over Balboa 10/10 times. You can make a whole day out of playing golf and then walking around coronado. Super chill beach town with one of the best beaches in the world and great restaraunts. The conditions at Coronado are also very very good, best in the city behind Torrey. Balboa conditions can get spotty and the front 9 is very quirky.
Balboa is out and back, if you play in the afternoon and don’t finish you will be really far from the clubhouse. Also, local tip, the ranger there will not let you play past sunset if you have a cart. (At Coronado they don’t care)
Balboa is a good course, but it’s not worth skipping Coronado on a short trip
Would it be worth staying a couple of nights there?
If you have the money, yes. Not cheap though. It does feel like a east coast beach vacation city in that way. Lots of tourists.
Different vibe than other coastal cities in San Diego. But it’s also tiny and so you might get bored of it after half a day, but it’s an easy drive over to San Diego proper.
The best beach in San Diego is Coronado though, very beautiful.
You could, but honestly La Jolla (near torrey) is probably the best place to stay in san diego. Big enough that it won’t get boring, quieter than downtown, quick access to freeway.
Coronado is perfect for a one day adventure, you can see everything there in a day
Thank you to everyone that helped out. The trip is going to be a little shorter than we had originally planned so we’ll only play two rounds while we are there (Torrey North on Wednesday, 3/15 and Coronado on Friday, 3/17). I haven’t booked a hotel/hotels yet, but at least I know now we are getting to go and I have tee times and at the times we preferred. If anyone cares to join and doesn’t mind bad golf and good company the tee times are at 1121 (TPN) and 1215 (CMGC).
Hello people who live in whale’s vagina. Going to be in town in April. The Padres are playing at home and trying to figure best place to sit for the dollar. All premium seats are sold out and it looks like they are only valid for season ticket holders.
Anyway, really don’t want to pay more than $100/ticket. What do you say, San Diegans?
Hello ladies and germs of San Diego. I’m gonna be in SD the weekend of May 11-14 and would love to get out to Torrey Pines for the first time, any advice on getting a tee time? Or is there anyone that would wanna play on the 12th?
how many tickets and what days? There isn’t really any bad seats
We can pre-book it if you’re willing to pay the fee and I might be down to play
Yeah I’m willing to pay it, not many opportunities to get out west and be almost right next to a course like that
