Welcome! I live in Erie about 2 hrs north but just did some research on Hillcrest. WHAT A DEAL!
Right? The course looks decent, but Iām having trouble finding any first hand reviews. Might have to reach out to them and get out there as soon as the weather warms up
Hello, I live in Buffalo but play Latrobe 1-2x a year. Keep an eye out here, a lot of people use this thread to arrange games in the area. I come down frequently when the weather is bad by me, but good enough to play there.
Awesome, thanks guys. I am a member at glengarry and Latrobe Elks. I have been up to play some courses in Mercer county and in Ohio, great tracks up there.
@alexshreff and I will have to invite some of yāall up to play some courses here in Erie, sometime this year. Maybe along with some of the fine WNY folks.
Count me in too - Iām a member at Lake View CCā¦and know thereās another member here (Ron), but donāt know his usernameā¦Iām sure he would be down as well.
Which Ron? Coleman?
Richardsonā¦sorry. Though I know Ron Coleman as heās our golf coach at Mercyhurst.
Okay. I know that Ron too. Used to do some photography with him.
@coachmax is a Lake View member as well. Would be fun to do an outing there with a group of guys and then a gang at Whispering Woods too.
Iām in! Iām a member at Lawrence Park on the east side. Would still love to have a little meet up.
Tomato tomato. They both start with Lās atleast!
Iām 200 miles away and āyep, totally reasonable, see you guise thereā
Anyone on this thread have any suggestions of golf around the Oakmont CC area. I am playing Oakmont later this year and driving there from Philly. I would like to maybe stay for 4-5 days golfing but donāt know the area and whatās within a day or so driving from there. Closest I have been is Eerie and the Box Car Dinor in Lawrence so have no idea which areas to look at.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Latrobe, 38 miles southeast. If youāre just passing through, you have to stay at the Latrobe Marriott for access to the tee sheet. If you have a group, they also have houses on the course for rent and a Member for a day experience. I go to Latrobe at least one weekend a year, for a night in the house (they charge by number of bedrooms used) and 2 rounds of golf itās 500ish at the rate of 160ish per bedroom in one of the houses. The golf is a bit cheaper if you stay in the house. Another public option worth your while is Olde Stonewall. DM me if you would like some more Latrobe info, can pass along my contact over there, theyāre great to work with.
Bedford Springs (renovated by Ross/Tillinghast) or Nemacolin Woodlands (Pete Dye) are resorts in the mountains east of Pgh on your drive across the turnpike.
There arenāt really any solid public options in the Oakmont area. If you head down towards Latrobe like @jasona93 suggested you can also play Totteridge, a nicer public Rees Jones. Olde Stonewall is nice and has a legitimate castle as a clubhouse. Not far from there is the former New Castle Country Club, a 1923 Tilly, which was just bought by the Avalon Group and is now public and always in great shape.
Whoa thanks for the tip on Avalon New Castle. Added to my golf travel links.
Thanks - any other great private (like old ones but any considered) tracks I could look at and maybe try my little black of contacts.
Like the idea of Latrobe because of the Arnie factor.
If you have the means to get on at Oakmont, you can probably get to Fox Chapel and Pittsburgh Field Club as well.
