Roll Call: Pittsburgh and Western PA

I think we’ll be flying out around 6pm Monday evening & will have a rental car, so we realistically could play in any direction so long as we could get back to the airport by 4-4:30. If there are better course recs than Quicksilver (driven by location),very open to hearing about them & exploring another direction outside Pittsburgh proper.

How impossible is a Fox Chapel connection?

I think you may have a chance if someone knows you reasonably well… And by that I mean as more than a member of a message board.

Hi Everyone, apologies for the delay in getting this up and for the date change. But times are made for Mill Creek on 9/28. Sign up sheet is in the Ohio thread…

Giving this one last bump before calling to give back tee times on Monday…

Last second opening for tomorrow…

Back again for a last minute tee time/course suggestion hail mary.

We have Totteridge booked for our Friday round which I’m excited about.

Looking for somewhere worth playing Monday(10/21) before our flight out. Quicksilver was perfect but looks to have a blocked tee sheet for the day, I figure either an outing or aeration? Cranberry is aerating this week so will unfortunately be missing that course as well.

Any other course for a Monday morning round that will allow us to get to the airport by 3pm? Open to any and all suggestions that a local would play as we’ll play any range of course type. I will be sporting a vintage Franco Harris jersey at the Jets game Sunday night if that provides any added motivation for a good rec or gracious host lol

Look at Firestone Farms in Ohio. It’s 40 minutes from the airport, but on the “good” side so traffic won’t be a concern in the slightest.

Solid golf course.

Reserve Run, potentially, too. But FF is better.

Hello all - Think I’m moving to Pittsburgh and would like to join a country club in the next couple years. As a member of push cart mafia, I was wondering if any of the mid-tier country clubs were walkable given the hilly terrain of Pittsburgh. Doesn’t need to be flat, just walkable. Thanks!

Is there a specific area you are looking at?

Looking at living downtown/lawrenceville/south side flats/north shore. Seems like chartiers is the best option considering budget but again need to be able to walk the course regularly

I don’t mean to be presumptuous but did you grow up in the burgh because those locations are not as always close in terms of travel time as they are distance wise.

Ex: if you were to live in lawrenceville and work from home or in the bakery square area then you open up Edgewood and Green Oaks. I’d say both are easily walkable but if you live northshore and want to make it out to those then it would be tough. Might need to back yourself in after you consider where you are living.

But I might be wrong. Plenty of other guys in the group who are members at clubs.

You have presumed correct. Appreciate the advice. Planning on joining the roost when the move is official.

I lived on the south side slopes for 7 weeks this fall to try out the city so vaguely familiar with driving around. Enjoyed Treesdale, birdsfoot, and totterridge so far.

Okay nice. (when I moved to baltimore I was stopped by the bmore roost from living literally next to a public course probably good in the long run still played a bunch but almost moved into real life hamsterdam lol).

For the area, most clubs are surprisingly walkable. The only course I’ve played around here and was like “yeah definitely aint walking that” is Olde Stonewall. Maybe Grandview also but I don’t really want to ride around that course either

I live on the South Side and am a member at Green Oaks. It’s definitely walkable and a fun layout but we’re going through some management/operations transitions so feel free to DM me for more info if you look into it more seriously.

I’ll say that from the South Side it’s hard to get out to play 9 or get to the range after work because traffic gets really backed up on 376 starting at like 3pm
