Loop The Dunes - A Casual 2025 Golf Stay and Play

Quite a bit of chatter over on the Trip Planners thread about Forest Dunes, pro’s and con’s, gotta get backs, and general enthusiasm. Never thought I’d see so much national chatter on a place squarely within my FcF frequently hit spots; fun stuff to see. One thing leads to another, and, given that thread is a group that sets these up not infrequently, we now have:

What are we trying to do?
It’s all just a chance to get together with a bunch of my favorite internet friends for a stay and play golf trip. No associated NIT spot, No Roost Club Championship points, no specific prizes to be awarded (besides the friends along the way?). I’m sure this bunch of sickos will find side games to happen, but that’s up to you/them/each person to figure out on their own. I want the vibes, the friends, the stories.
What I can offer you is a time and place to play, 3 great courses, and a bed to put your head down on afterwards. If somebody could ping the grilling thread, I’m sure we can get some kinda unbelievable homemade dinner options lined up for ourselves late into that Saturday night.

As with the PGA FedEx Playoffs sponsored by BMW with rights to CBS, NBC, the ‘cock, and possibly directly to Papa Beezos’ checking account, this is a limited field event, partially due to lodging restrictions on site at FD and partially due to daylight as we try to get 36 in that September Saturday. That means we have 40 spots available.
That said, as with all these events, inevitable waitlist callups will occur when actual money becomes due at either deposit or final payment, so don’t hesitate to put your name down the list even if you miss the initial spots.
Since this is a somewhat limited field, no plus-ones at this time (golfing or otherwise). I bought these friends behind the paywall dammit, I’m gonna get my dollars worth!

FAQ’s:

  • How dare you?
    That’s not a question
  • That $$$ seems steep…
Still not a question. That said, add up all your costs from the last time you did a stay and play → not just the golf. We’re around $210 per round for golf w/cart, plus $250 per night lodging. Is it the cheapest trip you can plan? No, but it’s not unreasonable either.
  • When do I have to pay my deposit?
Nov 1 2024 or sooner. If you miss the deadline, we’re pulling someone from the waitlist to take your spot. I’m going to be stingy with follow-ups too, so if you’re interested get committed and put your money where your mouth is.
  • Where do I eat?
The resort has several restaurants on site. In addition, each cabin or villa has a limited kitchen for cooking your own meals
  • Can I do just the golf part and figure out my own lodging?
If you’ve never been, Roscommon is not exactly a beacon of civilization and the resort isn’t convenient to much for access. Staying on site is absolutely the best way to make this work as simply as possible. Could it be done differently? Maybe… but I’m not going to try to make 40 unique itinerary options up front. In my experience, the resort has been willing to work with individuals on minor adjustments when the larger group is simply booked up front. If you’re on the fence, get signed up and try to make it work as it stands.
  • What’s a z-job?
If you have to ask big boy, you can’t afford it

Should be noted transfusions are shockingly easy to come by on the course and the bootlegger is required to be played barefoot, alt shot with 3 clubs between you and your alt-shot partner. I don’t make the rules.

but you have to yell fore if you’re going to hit into the 12-some in front of you, no matter how deep in space they are metaphysically

This sounds absolutely sick. Putting my name in and hopefully can make this happen

I mean, it kind of sounds like you just made some rules.

Scheduling this over my wife’s birthday is very unfair and I am sad

Buy her a really nice necklace and promise to take her somewhere nice the weekend after?

You can also play the Bootlegger in groups where only deuces count. Team that makes the most deuces wins.

Helmet optional

Making deuces on greens is @carrybagswag’s thing I think. Speaking of which…

I think that’s his music

@carrybagswag do you think that guy from your Dad’s weeknight league would be able to make the trip?

I can certainly try. But he has been well behaved over the past couple months.

Don’t you worry, I know a guy that can help

thanks to the fine laws of MI and some of my more courageous brothers in the flock, I can suggest that anyone, no matter how meek, can experience enlightenment and altered states

just don’t ask me to hit square face contact afterwards

I think you have to put your name on the sign up sheet before you can make up rules.

Edit: to add, I’m definitely going to try and play persimmon and blades for one of the loop rounds.

I was told that this is impossible with the roost structure.

In all seriousness, this looks awesome. Hoping I can swing it with the fam. Being over a year out definitely helps that department.
