Roll Call: Pittsburgh and Western PA

We have an indoor simulator here and I actually have it from 9-1 today or I would be there! Thanks for the invite, have fun!

It was in pretty nice shape. A couple wet spots, but totally worth doing.

Saw a bunch of guys out at Beaver Valley Golf Club today. Iā€™m sure it was a mud pit, but I admire their perseverance!

I see a couple mentions of it, any of you guys recommend Ogleby Bay in Wheeling (playing the Palmer and the Jones courses) for a stay and play buddies trip. Iā€™ve seen some mixed reviews online and quite frankly the course has been a little unresponsive to try and get a quote. But value wise and having the casino close it seems like and awesome option.

Curious about this as well, I did consider going there this past weekend until I was able to play Hickory Heights which saved about 40 min drive time. The courses do look nice though.

Olde Stonewall has times up for this weekend. Heading down from Buffalo again this Sunday as we are still no better than 40 degrees. We have a twosome at 11:48, I donā€™t know if we have been paired up yet. $75 which beats playing it at in-season rates.

I may be in for this. Forecast is calling for 1-3 inches of snow Fridayā€¦if that holds true, I will definitely get with you to see if they paired you up yet.

If we donā€™t get snow (Iā€™m expecting that forecast to change by Friday, hopefully) I will probably play somewhere locally Sunday.

Just got off the phone with Olde Stonewall. Ellwood City currently getting a dusting but it will be gone in no time. Sunday TT at 11:48 under the name Randy, we only reserved for two and are not currently paired up with anyone but the time isnā€™t shown available online. Youā€™d have to call the shop to join but feel free

Just curious if yā€™all got out and how the course was playing? Live about 15 minutes from Olde Stonewall and need to get out there soon.

It was in really nice shape! Bunkers all had soft sand. Greens were a little slow by their standards but rolled pretty good. $75 now, $100 in April, $150 peak season. Totally worth doing now. If weather looked better this weekend Iā€™d consider coming down again, but at the moment it looks like rain everywhere Thurs-Sun

Iā€™m off work 4/11 and 4/12 and planning to try to play as much golf as possible before settling into my couch with a beverage for the Masters. Anyone around and free for a round?

Anyone in the greater Pgh/Western PA want to play Wanango Country Club in Oil City, PA this Sunday?

Original 9 holes by Donald Ross, 9 more added later, then the whole course was renevated by Tillinghast in 1920. Only $55. Been on my list of must plays in the area for a long while.

i wish this wasnā€™t 5 hours away, sounds awesome

Grew up in Erie and now live in downtown Pittsburghā€¦ Just played my first round in the burgh at Lindenwood last weekend and feel like I got swindled pretty hard ($60 for 18 and a cart). Course was average at best. I plan on working my way around a lot of courses but would love some suggestions as to what would be some courses to prioritize. CRACK ON!!!

Make the drive up to Birdsfoot. Itā€™s not perfect, but itā€™s usually in good shape and they have deals all the time.

Good for a treat once or twice a year. Usually in A+ condition but you pay for it:
Olde Stonewall
Nemacolin Woodlands (Mystic Rock & Shepherdā€™s Rock)

My go toā€™s:
Birdsfoot (probably my favorite layout in the area)
Quicksilver
Totteridge
Cranberry Highlands
The Madison Club

Not bad / Not great. Good for a last minute round:
Cedarbrook (I actually prefer the Red Course. I think there are some fun holes and lots of birdie opportunities)
Butlerā€™s (The back 9 on the Lakeside Course is a lot of fun. The other 3 nineā€™s on property are pretty meh)
Hickory Heights
Pittsburgh National

All good suggestions. Quicksilverā€™s in season rate is a bit pricey but it is usually in very good shape. Totteridge is also worth the drive out there.

I think Butlerā€™s is underrated. Itā€™s not bad to get to from the city, and although itā€™s been a few years since Iā€™ve been there the greens always rolled perfect when I played there. The Woodside Course is a good walk as well.

Agree on Quicksilverā€™s rack rate. They have been at $50 after 12 pm on the weekends so far this season, which is a pretty good deal in my opinion.

Another option a bit closer to town (depending on the time of day) is 3 Lakes, formerly Alcoma Country Club, in Penn Hills.

Westwood (formerly Duquense Country Club) in the West Mifflin area is worth playing as well, although I read that they recently took out a hole to build some houses and squeezed another par 3 into the back nine, making that side, which was already a bit goofy, presumably worse. It was typically in very good condition when I played it however, and the front is a stout 9 holes.
