They were asking north of $220 the week of the Phoenix Open.
Yikes
Oh well. We are only a couple months away from summer rates, and I would assume these practices will stop once we are out of season.
Coming into PHX on Sunday, April 7. Anyone want to play golf around 10:30-11? No tee times booked yet.
I have an extra spot at Dobson at 10:24am on Sunday the 31st. Let me know if anyone is interested.
I have 1 spot and possibly 2 for Saturday at GCU - time is 12:02.
Also…if anyone has a city card that they are not using this weekend. Hit me up! I have a buddy in town
Fellas, coming into town in a week and a half for my wife’s bday celebration. We’ll be in Sedona, just gonna play one round, where do I HAVE to play?
^^^ second this - lots of dog legs and the greens are nasty but its a beautiful place to be and play at.
If you can get on Seven Canyons, play there. Otherwise, Oakcreek is a cool course. In my experience the rounds take forever and the staff does their best to make your experience suck but the views tend to make up for it.
Just booked a twosome for at Mountain Brook 6:15am this Saturday the 13th for my dad and I. The other two spots are still open to book on their site if anyone wants to join.
I booked a foursome at Aguila this Saturday at 12:32. Let me know if anyone is interested.
I committed to a 7am but I wish I had seen this earlier. Is this your first return as a champion?
I think I need to make a trip up to 500 Club. Have never played it. Isn’t that your home spot @jknudtson?
We need to wrangle up a 4 some up there with @GeneralTSo and @sea_bear one weekend so I can revel in Cameron’s 160+ ball speed with a 5 iron that I can’t get to with all the tech on God’s green Earth with a driver.
No I typically stick to the Phx city courses this time of year. I’m not too far from it and have used the 500 club range a number of times, but have only played there once. I enjoyed it, but not enough to play it consistently for 2x the cost of the city courses.
Down to get out there sometime though especially as summer rates approach!
Just got back from my first trip to Scottsdale. We played and stayed at We-Ko-Pa. Also played Sunridge Canyon and TPC Scottsdale Stadium course.
A few thoughts and musings:
- The weather was so freaking nice, I had never been to AZ before, I get the appeal. It was unreal and I couldn’t believe how beautiful I found the scenery to be.
- We-Ko-Pa Casino doesn’t have craps, which was devastating as it was advertised on their website - but damage was done at the roulette table and money was made
- We-ko-pa Cholla was exactly what I hoped it would be, fun, engaging, didn’t get punched in the face - we played 36 our day there and I’d happily play there again
- Sunridge Canyon had incredibly views, the scenery was unreal, I’d happily never play there again, was not what I needed after shutting down the roulette table and consuming 10 G&Ts the night before
- TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course - worth every penny, the half way house was a great place to hang out before and after the round, the course was in pristine condition, the holes were fun, the greens were complex, but I never once felt like I got punched in the face. We had an amazing fore caddy, I forgot how much different a round of golf felt when someone else was making all my decisions. I felt so relaxed there that entire day, it was just a really enjoyable experience and I’d happily go back and play again
Also forgot I met a buddy at Desert Mountain and played a round with him and his step-dad. That place was unreal, I was shell shocked by that entire development. The course we played was very tough, the rough was brutal and I couldn’t figure out how to chip out of it. Very different from Virginia and rough we played elsewhere on that trip.
Looking forward to my next trip out there.
are you sure you were at the Stadium course?
Just kidding. Glad you enjoyed the weather and your trip overall.
I was today years old when I realized I could get a City of Phoenix card as a Maricopa County resident. Will be purchasing immediately. My wallet feels heavier just knowing how much extra cash I’ll have next high cost season.
Hey guys- does anyone know anything about the 500 Club?
Booking a bachelor party round and it looks like a pretty affordable option compared to nearly everything else in the area.
“Where the only house you’ll see … is the clubhouse!” As their scorecard used to proclaim.
That’s about the best thing it has going for it, which outhere isn’t nothing. It’s kind of a weird course–it was a designed by a professional architect but clearly on a shoestring budget and the feeling you get is almost like that of courses built by by their owners over time. By that I just mean the holes that play over flat land are just flat, the holes the get up into the hills go right up into them. Otherwise there’s really not a ton of earth moved. They dug out some lakes and bunkers and got just enough irt from doing that to have a few mounds and humps here and there. Otherwise you feel like they laid out some holes and planted some trees and grass and that’s what you have.
They’ve tinkered with the design over the years, mostly to its detriment. Just weird stuff like adding an island green, and a church pew bunker, that kind of thing.
I’d rather play the munis in town for roughly half the price but with those out of the equation 50 Club is a pretty good option, especially in that part of town. There’s not much else close to its fairly reasonable cost and I’d play it a hundred times out of a hundred over Legend at Arrowhead, for example.
First return…good way to get excited and then shoot 95!
