Anyone played Talking Stick Piipaash? Your thoughts/review?
I think it’s a really solid course.
Still a Coore/Crenshaw design, but not in the same style as the Oodham. My theory will always be, until Bill Coore or someone else who was there tells me otherwise, that the developers were nervous about the very minimalist style of the Oodham course and wanted the other course to be more “normal.” So it’s got a vaguely parkland feel to it. They planted so trees, built a fake lake or two, and the holes have smaller, push-up greens. But then again, it’s still a C&C design so the strategy is still really sound. @GarrettFM did a nice write up recently for Club TFE recently about how the fourth hole is a bit of a Woking template.
I think it gets slept on because Oodham is so good (and don’t get me wrong I’d go 8/2 or 7/3 Oodham if splitting 10 rounds) but Piipash is better than 8 out of 10 courses you’ll find in the Valley.

Something to monitor over in Maryvale. Looks like GCU is holding some of the morning tee times for public rate only and waiting until the last ~2-3 days to make them available for the city card rate instead of posted 9 day window. Not good!

I like maryvale/gcu but 150 is criminal. Damn. I guess I’m glad I go back home mostly in the offseason lol
I’ve noticed this quite a bit with GCU lately. Quite disappointing, especially since I very rarely see those public times actually selling out.
