First I’m hearing about it but went to the website and it’s intriguing. I truly hated Adobe but we will see if the changes help. I’ve heard it got butchered pretty bad to add more houses.
One of my biggest pet peeves of any course, especially any charging a premium, is playing in a a neighborhood
Totally agree, and a lot of resort guests out there so the pace is tough
Looking for 1 more.
Come join me @chearnen13 and @Jpop942
Sounds like the Estates is a redo of the Adobe. Very interested to see if it’s playable. Biltmore has always been low on my list, but the Links isn’t entirely horrid for a change of pace. Like 1 round in a 100.
But I hope they did good.
That’s how I remember feeling about links. It was always in ok shape and if you didn’t want to hit one of the regular munis it was a good cheaper option for a change of pace
I used to think Adobe was a reasonable place to play if you got out on a weekday. Weekends when it was busy it could be a bit of a shooting gallery - holes so close together that it felt legit unsafe. But there were some fun holes and wild greens that I really enjoyed.
I haven’t been since they started making changes a few years back. One of the appeals of the course was the price point but it was never the kind of course I’d pay 3 figures to play. We’ll see if Lehman’s renovation can make it worth what they seem to want to charge.
IMO the Links is among the handful of worst courses in the state (design-wise, that is, the conditions are usually reasonable).
I’ll join. Open to get some sort of match action going as well.
Down for some sort of match. This will be my Roost counting round though so as long as the game allows for me to play normal stroke play for that.
Greetings fine people of Phoenix!
Doing a hiking trip through Utah and Arizona, ending in Phoenix. I will be proposing to my girlfriend somewhere with a beautiful view in a National Park (possibly arches national park!).
I need your best dinner recommendations for dinner to celebrate our engagement when we get to phoenix/scottsdale area!
First search, I’ve found Cala, Picollo Virtu and Sandfish which seem like interesting options.
Thoughts?
Just wanted to consolidate. Dobson Ranch tomorrow at 930.

Hello Arizonians,
I am coming to your state next week, and have 2 questions
-
Are there any good places to play in Flagstaff? Looking around and only see nice private courses
-
Anyone playing in the Scottsdale / Phoenix area on the 11th and looking for another person?
Desert dwellers,
Your favorite malcontents favorite malcontent will be visiting your neck of the woods (phoenix/Scottsdale) November 10 for a weekend wedding.
I challenge any of you to a duel!
Gambling on the duel is encouraged and hopeful. The wedding party was set to play the afternoon of the welcome party, but the course they’re hosting it at is aerating, and the groom pulled the plug due to wedding stress. Looking for something decently close to my air bnb, but I don’t truly care. We’re staying in between phoenix, Tempe, and Guadalupe.
WHO WANTS SOME?!?!
There’s one public, Continental Country Club. I’ve never played it so I don’t have any opinions on it. Looks like 1st tee time starts at 9:00am to potentially avoid some frost delays, but who knows if that’s late enough.
I booked a 10:08am foursome for Nov 12th at Cave Creek Golf Course (nice Phoenix Muni), and I have 2 spots open if you’re able to make that day work.
Are any other Phx City Card holders noticing the booking site is pretty wonky? I log in on my phone and it only shows 2 “hot deal” tee times 9 days out, I go to my computer and it shows more available, I book a mid-morning time, refresh the page, and it’s back to only showing the 2 “hot deal” times.
I had that happen once, but haven’t been able to replicate it. It’s showing fine for me right now.
There is a filter for rate type. Maybe just check to make sure hot deal wasn’t accidentally selected?
Hmm, it wasn’t even letting me click the dropdown to see the options, but I was able to click reset and that seemed to do the trick
The best bets for public play up that way are Elephant Rocks, which is in Williams about a half hour west of Flag, or one of the courses in Sedona (Oakcreek or Sedona GC), about 45 minutes south.
Elephant Rocks isn’t the best course you’ll ever play but it has a nice sense of place with some holes in the pines. Great views and vibe out there. However, Williams (like Flagstaff) is at significant elevation and IIRC they shut the course down in the winter so not entirely sure if they’ll even be open mid-November.
Sedona GR is a John Fought design with incredible views of the Sedona red rocks formations all around. Kinda plays up a big hill and then back down. There are a couple of holes that are a little awkward and they’ve built homes around a lot of it, but it’s wider than most desert courses in Phoenix.
Oakcreek is a Trent Jones design, just north of where Sedona GR is but older with a lot of mature hardwoods around the holes. Still some spectacular views and the best golf course of the three, in my opinion.
Sedona is slightly lower in elevation and while you can get winter temps and snow, courses there stay open year round.
I wouldn’t recommend Continental, the only truly public course in Flagstaff. You are right that it is dominated by high end private clubs. Forest Highlands is probably the top of the list there, if you can get access. But those clubs may also be shutting down for the season.
Hello Arizonans,
I hope this isn’t a redundant question, but I am visiting my parents in Scottsdale next week and am looking to play golf. I’ve been a few times and have really learned to love desert golf, although it took a bit of time. My question is: are there any public access courses that are " can’t miss’ or offer something different. I’ve played the likes of TPC, Sunridge canyon, Legend Trails, Rio Verde, Wickenberg Ranch, and Camelback (ambiente) with cambelback probably being my favourite (I always seem to enjoy Fry/Straka/Hurdzan courses)
I’m already playing talking stick and at the moment am leaning towards We Ko Pa to get a full dose of C&C.
