Roll call: Phoenix/Scottsdale

WeKoPa is definitely on the can’t miss list. Two of the best courses in the area. Also would recommend Southern Dunes as well.

Second @Waffles thoughts. If you liked ambiente you’ll enjoy Southern Dunes. A full C&C trip would be great too. Warm up with Talking Stick and then go to We Ko Pa. Saguaro is probably the area course I’d say is truly can’t miss.

Ya had my eye on Southern Dunes but its a bit of a hike as we’re up in Cave Creek. Now that I look We Ko Pa isn’t too close either. Any thoughts on Quintero?

Quintero is very very pretty. But it’s objectively a 5/10 course on a 10/10 property. You will have a blast. But it plays way to hard and is way to expensive.

I would personally tell you to bite the bullet and drive to Southern Dunes and WeKoPa. It’s well worth the commute.

Fully agree with @Waffles.

Quintero is great eye candy but the course low key stinks. It’s Rees Jones at his worst. Difficult without being interesting.

The drive to WeKoPa isn’t as bad as it seems, even from Cave Creek. And the Saguaro course is worth the trip. Head and shoulders the best public course in the state and the kind of course you can appreciate even in one play. Whereas, much as I love Talking Stick, the O’odham course there is a grower. Most people who only play it once on a trip and underwhelmed. (For the record, I still think it is worth playing, especially if you appreciate GCA and Coore/Crenshaw.)

Southern Dunes is probably the second best public course in the state and a nice change of pace because it isn’t really a desert course. It’s a Schmidt/Curley design that does have some things in common with Ambiente, but it’s better in every respect (basically all the issues I have with Ambiente don’t exist at Southern Dunes). But that’s a long drive, especially if you get caught up in traffic going through the city.

You say you’ve played TPC but have you played both courses there? The Champions course is a much better value than the Stadium and I think most of us who live here think the course is just as good if not better than the tournament course across the street. Very good north side option if you haven’t played it.

The north side of town has many good courses, especially if you have “learned to love” desert glf, though all on the very pricey end this time of year. Both courses at Troon North, both courses at the Boulders (they alternate which one is available to the public), and Grayhawk (I much prefer Raptor to Talon) are all good courses but the value question is tough with what they charge.

Apple Cup match?

Definitely, even if it is against my better judgement. I’ll probably look good for four holes and then inexplicably lose my shit. If I’m lucky you’ll leave for a nicer course and I can keep the assets.

I booked a 12:56 foursome at Cave Creek this Saturday 11/18 if anyone would like to join.

Hello Phoenix/scottsdale residents. I’m in the process of planning a month long sabbatical for next year (targeting August / September time frame). Plan right now is to fly into Vegas or Phoenix, pick up an RV and try to hit AZ/NV/CA/OR/WA and golf.

I’m curious if anyone has any good RV parking recommendations for somewhere around Phoenix/Scottsdale that would allow me easy access to good golf for a few days.

Also open to any course recommendations as I’ve never been to AZ before…

Hey guys, first time posting here. Went on a short golf trip out there in January and forgot to grab my standard ball and yardage book from Quintero. Got them for both we-ok-pa and Troon courses, just forgot at the first stop on our trip. Anyone live close and would be willing to ship one of each to me, or know or a good way to purchase online? Doesn’t look like they have them on their website. Willing to pay you for your time and to ship obviously
