We have been going in the Princess gate the last 5-6 years. I hesitate to tell you about it since it is way better! Previously the only difficult part of it was taking an Uber there because they didn’t let you anywhere near the hotel but they put in a designated Uber drop-off point about three years ago that takes any guesswork out of it. You will be dropped off right by the front of the hotel and walk directly through the front to the back of hotel which will spit you out on 5 tee and there won’t be much of a line. They will probably have a concert there after, at least they did two years ago (we didn’t make it out for tournament last year).
Do any of y’all have a recommendation for a forecaddie at Troon North?
Not sure any / many of us locals will spring for top $ / forecaddie season…going to say, I had no idea they had forecaddies haha
Same!
Furthermore, if a forecaddie is not required, I see no reason to take one. I’m sure they give you yardage cards, or have GPS in the carts. That’s really all you need. There’s not a lot tricky about Troon North. A couple holes where washes might cut across play or you want to check the yardage to a dogleg, I guess, but otherwise just hit it where it’s green. And if you fail in that, drop and move on.
I hear ya- I played it in the summer before and didn’t use one/ need one, but apparently the service is included in high season greens fees.
Thoughts on McCormick ranch palms or pines course? Which is better?
Here’s my standard line on the McCormick courses:
One course has a hole with an island fairway and a peninsula green. The other course has a hole with a peninsula fairway and an island green.
That’s about how distinguishable they are.
Used to be Pine was a bit harder because pine trees, after 40 years of growth, are more trouble off the fairways than palms are. But big winds a few years back knocked down a LOT of the pines, especially on the front nine, so that course is actually pretty wide open now (though there are a few holes on the back that still have some trees).
But realistically, there’s not really a difference between the two courses. They were built at the same time, by the same guy. They have the same small greens, the same conditions, the same maintenance, the same aging bunkers, everything. Some people might hate the 8th green on Palm or not like the way the 1st tee shot on Pine sets up and be biased because of that kind of thing, but if you played the front of each course (all the holes on the south side of the street) you wouldn’t know you had mixed and matched nines.
Anyone interested in playing golf Saturday Morning at Arizona Grand at 9:50 a.m.? Got a Foursome for work but people backed out. It would be $125.00 per person. Let me know. Thanks.
Greetings, desert dwelling friends, it is I again. Will be in Phoenix next week for work and thinking about trying to play Friday the 3rd. Anyone interested or have any suggestions on where I should try to play?
You have anything planned for Saturday?
@Waffles and I are playing Aguila Friday 3/3 and looking for two more players. I am driving from Albuquerque that morning so we can’t go out earlier than about 1. Currently have a 2:40 tee time but looking for bump it earlier if a spot opens up.
Going to be in Scottsdale next week and playing troon and we-ko-pa saguaro with my dad and grandpa. Looks like there’s still a spot left online for the troon round at 8:30 am on 3/4 (Saturday).
Anybody want to have a little 2CGC/DryHeat game?
Thanks for the heads up but that’s the day of our Roost major, the Tumbleweed Two Ball. Most of us will be there all day. @D4ndrews we might have a spot if you are around that Saturday!
Yeah 2:40 would be too late for my current schedule, my flight leaves at 5:40. I’ll have to see if I can get a later option out, that would be awesome.
Hold one of those spots for me. I think I can make this work.
Just snagged a tee time tomorrow morning at Aguila for my quota round
I have snagged a foursome at Encanto on Sunday 2/26 at 8:16 if anyone is interested.
Will be my Quota round.
- Stinky @Waffles
- The Great @GeneralTSo
- Cheerful @chearnen13
- Open
Wish I could join you guys
Played my quota at Aguila, really enjoyed that place, and even more bummed to be missing the Tumbleweed 2 Ball. CH was 6, so a quota of 30. I had 1 birdie, 10 pars, 6 bogeys, and a double. For a smooth 79 and 30 points to be even on the day for quota.
