Roll call: Phoenix/Scottsdale

Max Homa is the absolute best. Love this. The Papago skins games are legendary.

I’m in town for a work meeting and the WM Open next weekend. Going to tourney Fri & Sun (unless I’m at the SB watching the Birds!), so if anyone else will be there would love to meet up. Then I’m open for golf Saturday (prefer something early in case I can get back to WM in the afternoon).

Understandibly tee times are tough that weekend (and pricey!). Rooms were a bitch too so I’m staying in Mesa…if anyone has recommendations I’m all ears.

I’ll be there Sunday as well so let me know if you do end up making it out Sunday.

Don’t laugh, but I wouldn’t be a true fan it i didn’t ask/post…Eagles :eagle: fan in town for WM :golf: and wouldn’t you know it :person_shrugging: the Birds are in the Super Bowl. If anyone hears of available tickets, I’d appreciate a tap on the shoulder. As for what I’d spend - somewhere south of the current going rate on StubHub (which I think was $5500), but north of an amount that I’d disclose to my wife (that ceiling is still TBD).

Bump/local reminder if you want to play in a team event on Saturday March 4th at Aguila. A few spots are still up for grabs.

I’ll be out at TPC tomorrow for the practice round. Anyone else gonna be out there?

I’m going Thursday.

Have a friend who will be there tomorrow but I think he’s just going to be in a company box all day living the C-suite life.

Hello gents! I’m from the Chicago roost and I’ll be in Phoenix/Scottsdale for a buddys bachelor party at the end of the month. Where are some of your favorite/best public tracks that don’t break the bank?

Going to the WM Open on Friday (GA ticket). Best advice for someone who hasn’t ever been? What holes should I see?

That’s a tall order as everything will break the bank in February. These are going to be your best bet. All very solid - Parks and Recreation Phoenix Golf

17 is the best hole if you can find a good vantage point in the right side of the hole. I also really like the hill to the right of 12. Can see the tee shots on 13 and incoming shots on 6. The front nine will be quieter so I like to follow groups throughout the front. I like 3 and 4 on the front. If you can get behind the green on 3 you can see the incoming shots on that par 5 and there are some fun putts and short game shots depending on the hole location. 4 is a decent par 3 so if you camp out being 3 green you can watch people hit tee shots on 4 too.

How big is the group? I believe if it’s at least 8 you can book the City courses in advance of the 7 day booking window. You just have to pay a little extra, but it’ll still definitely be cheaper than the resort courses.

Has anybody entered WMPO through the entrance at the Princess by 5 tee instead of the main entrance? Easier/recommended?

Never even knew that was a thing. Been going for 15 years and never knew about a second entrance.

Unless you’re going to go get in line at 4 am and run when the gates open, you’ll spend all day waiting in lie to see 16. It’s not really worth it.

17 is worth it. I haven’t ben out in a few years but I think you can still walk down the right side of 17 and it’s a great spot to watch. If you ca stand at the rope by the green it’s great to see drives come in, plus see chips and putts.

I also really like the big hills between 6 and 12. The area has become more congested over the years (they build the big Fairway House pavilion up there now which makes it busier and noisier) but that’s still a good spot to be able to bounce around and watch some interesting holes from good stadium-style locations. 6 is one of the few interesting front nine holes, a big dogleg left where most players have short irons or a wedge in and the green is set into the big spectator mound with a deep bunker in the front left. But some guys don’t make the carry and end up in the fairway bunkers or overcook a snap hook off the tee and end up in the desert left off the tee so you can see everything from birdies to crazy adventures. On the other side of the hill you can watch 12, which is a tough mid-length par 3, or easily see the 11th green. Or you’re a short walk to the 7th tee, 8th fairway, or 13th tee. In short, no matter where quality groups are on the course, you are never too far away from seeing some good groups.

Ran into someone that had mentioned it and it’s listed on the map. Just wasn’t sure about logistics of where to enter through the Princess and if it would be easier getting in & out than the main gate.

I know it was at one time the case that the Princess entrance was reserved for guests of the resort only. I don’t know for sure if that’s still the case, but I would suspect so. Resort like that doesn’t have a lot of interest in the unwashed masses traipsing through their grounds and pool area.
