Roll call: Phoenix/Scottsdale

I need at least like 500 words on this

(I have zero comprehension of how far $50 Uber will take you, but I do ‘member the days of that being like Sedona)

GCU, as mentioned
Aguila
Talking Stick (think they have Oodham closed right now though)
Raven, as recommended
Legacy (across the street from Raven)

LOL love the variety of shots needed to score but also the shot values themselves are really good for a city track. the small nuances and overall just fun walk right in the heart of N PHX gets me going just thinking about it… I play it a ton in the winter and the super for sure had it firm and fast making shots bound everrrrywhere if not placed in the right spots making the design even more of a factor…not 500 but theres some for ya ;)…super underrated course especially on this thread I would rather shoot my face off than play some courses that are regularly mentioned outside of TS WKP and such

I’m with you. GCU is a top tier public course in the Valley. TS, WKP, GCU, Southern Dunes, Aguila. I’d be happy if I just rotated between those.

This makes me want to get out to GCU. Been here almost a year now and my biggest takeaways are that the city courses all punch above their weight and are great winter options, while the tribal courses and Camelback are the best move in the summer. I got the Southern Dunes 6-pack and am consistently stoked to make that drive. Just a fantastic course. On the flipside I played Phoenician last week after liking my first round there, but it may have been in the worst shape of any course I have seen.

Just came across this. Not sure how the open house/meeting went last night.

Hey everyone. Looking for recommendations for a 3 day 2 night golf trip for Arizona around January or February. What’s the best options?

Going to be completely reliant on your budget / how much golf you want to play. You can find rounds from like $100-500 around that time, especially if WMPO / Super Bowl weekend

Hotels and cars are typically more expensive too, it’s the perfect time of year to be here. You should have a blast no matter what, but if the budget is tight you will definitely be limited on the golf

What’s the best budget option? And if you went all out what’s the play?

Budget may be tight. Some in the group want absolute best available. Some want cheapest possible. It’s a fun trip to plan haha

We Ko Pa is phenomenal, top ranked course in the state. Well worth the cost. That’d be my top choice personally.

Other premium options:

  • Quintero (a bit of a drive ~1hour north from Scottsdale)
  • Ak-Chin Southern Dunes is pretty good
  • Grayhawk (extremely expensive in season, gonna be $375+)
  • Wickenburg Ranch (also a drive north/west of Scottsdale, but really cool track and a premium experience, super expansive views & elevation changes)
  • Troon North, either course also will be $300+

For easier / budget options, which will still be plenty expensive but probably in the $150ish range in Jan/Feb:

  • Wildfire Golf Course (Palmer or Faldo)
  • Longbow Golf Club
  • Papago GC (I believe ASU plays there now)
  • Whirlwind GC
  • Talking Stick (next to a casino)
  • McDowell Mountain GC

Personally I think TPC Scottsdale is overrated for the cost. Especially in prime season.

Overall a very solid list

I think most of the above list will likely be closer to $200 each (like Wildfire makes my skin crawl, but resort course for tourists)…but there is a $150 bucket

Orange Tree
Starfire
Silverado (maybe?) (but a good & fairly friendly course for all levels)

Also, always like shouting out Mountain Shadows. Par 3 course, but again good for all levels…but it will fetch like $175 still

Thank you both very much, very helpful

Great perspective. Used to work out there. Very few repeated holes and you end up hitting a lot of different holes. When they’ve got the surrounds cut down, there’s many places to get boned and have to hit a variety of shots.

Good selection of Par 3s too.

Yeah good points - man I haven’t played Starfire in a long while, that one totally slipped my mind.
Kinda parkland style that weaves amongst a housing development.
From what I remember, Silverado is much more open, but very flat.

I probably would lean Starfire over Silverado but haven’t been at either in such a while that I don’t know how conditions are.
I don’t remember Orange Tree very well.

But in any case, I agree with you, those are good value options at an even more “approachable” price point.

Anyone have a a cool $5m to take this course off of crooked Mr. Gee’s hands?

$5m for the least interesting work Morrish and Weiskopf ever did together. Even when that place is in decent condition, it’s pretty much a snooze.

I like the course but it’s also where I learned the game and is three minutes from my house, so it holds a certain nostalgia factor. It’s inexcusable how little good golf there is in Ahwatukee. I refuse to play ACC and Club West has been closed for nearly a decade. It’s really the last remaining hope of golf here.

Ahwatukee golf. Only 30 minutes from Southern Dunes.
