Meanwhile everybody in the SE Valley jacked up for a possible day at SD only 30 min away, is now calculating the 3 hour drive to Flagstaff haha
If we’re going all out then WKP 36 would be pretty ideal right?
I think we talked about this before, either here or offline, and this is really the idea I’m most in favor of. It gives the most flexibility to everyone.
And then we can do whatever we want with those scores. It can just be a competition to score the most quota points. Or it can be a way to seed a fall match play bracket. It can help us pick or seed teams for a late summer Ryder Cup. Lots of options on the table.
Who’s got the Forest Highlands membership?
Torreon is fine too
Forest Highlands had 36 is the bonus. I’ll also accept Pine Canyon.
Bonus for Torreon is that Show Low isn’t terrible far from a family cabin in Forest Lakes.
Rim Club/Chap Pines double is also nice. I have zero connections at any of these places lol
Must be nice…
Yes, think we oughta run with this and get the ball rolling, what other kind of formats can we mix in (singles not teams)?
Quota
Stableford
Tilt? (I still don’t fully understand this one)
Could help spice it up too, each month is a different course with a different format, and we just rank each month by finishing spot…so 1-16 with 1st place getting 16 points and 16th place getting 1 point…and tally those up at the end and do something with those standings
I’m all for this because it’ll make my lazy ass go play some different courses. All I remember of Tilt is if you get a net birdie you really don’t want to bogey the next hole (or worse).
Aren’t those all basically variations on the same thing?
ie they’re all stableford, because you’re getting (or losing) points based on the score you make on the hole. Quota is just a way to balance those points relative to handicap. Tilt adds a multiplier.
Yes, they are all a variation of playing golf! /s
Good point…not like it is a huge deal to play quota once a month, and probably easiest
You’re a bad guy.
I think mixing a tilt in for one month’s round is a fun idea. Maybe make the last month a tilt game or something for maximum variance?
That could be spicy…nobody is out of it…which is definitely something I’d like to avoid
Alright all, spreadsheet is fired up, it is the same doc as the match play, so just looking for you to add your details to the 3rd tab (aptly titled “FILL THIS OUT”)
LOVING the Google profile pic
Thank you, took it yesterday
your birthday has been good to you
Time to dive into the details haha
What will be the point values for eagles, birdies, pars, bogeys, double or worse?
Since it’s possible to get negative points (don’t meet your quota, right?), should we stipulate a 10 or 15 point penalty if you don’t get a round in during the month?
Also, play the course as many times as you want w/ a refugee, and you can take your best round score? Or add in the pressure of only the last round played counts? You can try again to better your score…or make it worse.*
*You can play the course a second time and keep your first score if you just designate beforehand that round you are a “witness” for another refugee.
Quota everything is played off of gross, right? In place of “receiving” strokes you just have a lower quota to hit?
Eagle: 5
Birdie: 3
Par: 2
Bogey: 1
Double+: 0 (aka pick it up!)
I don’t love the idea of a specific hole leading to negative points, but have no issue with negative points for the round if you don’t hit quota
Possibly harsh, but I think that if you’re signed up and can’t play once in an entire month you should be tossed from overall competition. If too harsh, then -5 on top of the worst score maybe?
The multiple rounds can prove to be tricky…let’s take Papago for example…we have guys who live 5 min from there and play it multiple times a week vs. a guy (using @Jwest3106 as an example) who can only get out once a month…I would lean toward it is one and done, the first play is the official round?
I also think it could be fun, but don’t want to force it, but to once again try to collect $ on this. We can have a small pool for each month and then an overall pool for the overall winner…it might just need to be $25-50 a guy to make it worth while, so the monthly winner isn’t taking home a $10 purse haha
I’m so glad this ball got rolling!! FWIW I wouldn’t be objected to being able to play the selected course as many times as you want. If I play my cards right I could maybe get in 2 rounds a month. But if you can play the selected course 5 or 6 times then more power to you.
