Let me know how it is. Thinking I want to get the wife out there, but want her to get a little more golf under her belt before heading there.

Played Royal St Cloud today, for $50/person it was great.

Grand Cypress Links Course was delightful today. The course was in pretty nice shape for late January, with dry(ish) fairways and greens and overall good putting surfaces. There’s always a few wet spots out there near some drainage areas, but way better drainage than what you’ll find at OCN, Celebration, Shingle Creek, etc. It also has better “shot value” than a lot of other Orlando resort courses (have to give the :bear: credit where credit is due).

In sum, for those who may have questioned the locals’ consensus recommendation for this place:

The construction project is massive and definitely impedes the “resort” feel to arrival, check-in, and warmup. There’s no range at the moment, so hitting balls into a net doesn’t scream luxury. Also no practice green, which was the bigger issue today. The new hotel and convention center looms over the 1st tee and 18th green, and doesn’t quite have the same aesthetic aura as the R&A headquarters.

Good to hear! Gonna try and make it out there later this week.

We played Kissimmee Country Club today…and ugh yikes…the first hole being the Florida template par 5 (driver, short iron, long iron) was definitely a harbinger of what was to come. Should have known what was coming when the guy working the pro shop described the course as having a lot of water, houses, and greens that were fast and hard to hold…oh is that all? Trying to think of any redeeming qualities of the course and not finding many.

That said, on the 10th my wife had like 60 yards in after her drive and managed to fly the bunker and just lipped out for an eagle 2, and had to settle for a tap-in birdie, the first for either of us two rounds into the trip. Her view of the green was blocked by the bunker and she has zero context to what she almost accomplished.

FYI for anyone near Southern Dunes this week. Just received this in an email from them:

Booking TopTracer Bays

Because we are continuing to have issues with our TopTracer Bay tee sheet we are extending the complimentary bays for 3 more days.

Please help us work out the kinks by booking your bay online.
www.southerndunes.com
Complimentary bays this week Tuesday - Thursday.

TopTracer Bays are open from 5:00pm - 10:00pm.

Starting Friday February 3, 2023

Bays will cost $50.00 for 1 hour.

Does that mean the range isn’t open during the day?

Going to be in Orlando in a couple of weeks. How far in advance do/can I need to book Winter Park?

Not sure about range times. This was an advertisement for free TopTracer Bay usage while they work out the booking kinks.

Three days in advance

If you at least get the first nine booked they’re usually pretty good about trying to get you back out for a replay. Just depends

I’m eyeballing Mon Feb 20th. I’m probably a single if it matters. I’d love to do 3 loops or am I delusional and should just find somewhere else to spend the day?
