Anyone going to Nona tomorrow for the LPGA event?
I’d probably just play one of the Disney courses if I’m already there for vacation. Most of the other courses in similar conditions are going to basically be around the same price point.
Got it. Thank ya! I’ll check em out.
For all the locals, now that we are in surge pricing season, where would you recommend playing that won’t break the bank and will actually have reasonable tee times? When I say won’t break the bank, I simply mean a place that won’t be overcharging. I am guessing you have to just get out of the general Orlando area and hit up some of the outer area courses?
I paid $49 to play Harmony at 11am today. It was in lovely shape.
My playing partner gave me some intriguing intel that MetroWest was in good shape and had exceptionally fast greens. I thought for sure that place was done for.
Legends in Clermont is usually a good price with decent tee time availability. Fun course too.
I believe the Dubsdread resident rate is only $59 on the weekends right now. Not a bad bang for your buck relative to other courses in town.
Thanks for the recommendations! My home course is OCN, and even with the Florida Elite membership discount it is +$90 with the surge pricing right now. Also, a good excuse for me to explore the rest of the Orlando area course.
Deer Island, Zellwood, RSC as well. I haven’t been out to RSC in a while though I need to go back soon. Would be cool to do a 27 hole event there.
Played White Heron the other day - would recommend and it’s somewhat affordable, given the season (we payed 60ish for 10am Thursday.
Kissimmee bay may be farther than you want to drive but it’s in good shape for the price as well.
Getting the itch to play some golf Friday late morning/early afternoon down here - anyone game or have suggestions from this list of what looks available as of now (not looking to break the bank and have played all the Disney courses already )
Dubsdread
Winter pines
Ventura CC
The local contingent has praised conditions here.
Also seen recent reviews that MetroWest is in acceptable shape. Not really walkable, but same relative distance from the convention center and similar price point.
See you Saturday!
Fantastic! Thank you for your intel!!
And can’t wait for Saturday!!
All those are decent options. Ventura just reopened from a long renovation and Pines was bought by the city and under same management as wp9. LMK if you need a 4th!
Conditions relative to price*
It’s not Isleworth conditions but it was in totally fine shape the last time I played. It has looked great when I’ve driven by in recent days. @SmotheredHook could probably give a better conditions report. Out of Dusdread, Winter Pines and Ventura - Dubsdread is definitely the play.
I haven’t played Dubs in 2-3 weeks (which is an eternity for me). But conditions are typically very good. I have no reason to think otherwise at the moment.
Out of those you mentioned, it’s the best conditions and best course. Extremely walkable too. Small and short-ish but not super easy. Small greens that you don’t want to be long of – very old-fashioned and simplistic. And the greens are always in good shape.
sorry…edited to mention @ChickPhilA
I secured a single time that was left at 10:50 for dubsdread. It’s just such a fun name!
Excited to swing the sticks tomorrow and Saturday!!
Nice! Check out the Tap Room afterwards if you have time!
It looks dope - think I may use it as my office for at least part of the afternoon
good morning florida folks.
I’m less than a month away from our second attempt at a disney trip (previous was canceled for hurricane Ian). We will be there starting Thurs the 16th, until Thurs the 23rd. At that time I’m driving on to Streamsong for the weekend. We have two non-park days, Friday & Monday, scheduled in there where I’d like to duck out for golf. I also think I’m going to have some time late afternoon/early evening to maybe get out for 9.
Received a rec yesterday from a guy at my club to go play Grand Cypress, which I see is very close. Is that worth it? Is there anything in Orlando I have to go see in case I never come back? WP9 is a good 30min drive away. I’m inclined to just practice at the Marriott we’re staying at, shoot for 3+ loops of WP9 on monday, and maybe just keep practicing the other days when I have a chance.
We’re not staying at Disney, we’re staying at the Marriott across the street, so anything at twilight would need to be close by. Some of the other courses mentioned like Dubs are too far away to reasonably pop over to at twilight.
