My buddy works at Waldorf - they’re redoing one of the 9s this year and the other one next year. Re-bunkering and working on green complexes.
Have 2 spots open at Rio Pinar for this Saturday morning if anyone is interested.
Locking up signups for the event at Palatka on 8/13 this Friday morning, we have two spots left @ASplashOfOJ
Looking for some local help.
I’m heading to Orlando for a conference in mid-October. We’re staying at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort. Four of us are coming one day early to golf. Where should we play? I wanted to play Bay Hill but it doesn’t look like we can without staying at the resort? Thanks for any insight!
You’re already staying where you should play - Links Course (fka “New” Course) at Grand Cypress Resort. Two loops on WP9 also makes for a good time.
Thank you!
It looks like we are playing the Links Course on Wednesday as part of the conference Any others?
I would love the WP9 vibe but am not sure about the others joining me.
What Adam said - They also have a new “Florida” Course thats in immaculate condition. It’s a hell of a good 1-2 for 36 one day.
Edit: Shingle Creek, Hawks Landing, Any of the Reunion courses, or the courses at Champions Gate
Greg provided some good options. Can’t speak to the new “Florida” course at the resort, but if your stay gets you access that’s probably worth a look. Shingle Creek is the epitome of FL resort golf. Reunion and ChampionsGate can start getting pricey in October unless it’s afternoon golf. Next tier down close to the airport includes Eagle Creek and North Shore.
Play their other course. You can only play if you are staying there right now, I think.
Thank you very much! That is all very helpful. I’m trying to figure out logistics and timing.
I was hoping for Bay Hill but the prices got a little out-of-hand with a requisite stay.
Just my opinion - overrated
ducks and runs away
I don’t doubt that opinion. But I think it would be cool to play Arnie’s place and a Tour venue. Just like Torrey - South. I don’t need to play it again, but I like having some perspective seeing it on TV. And I doubt that I will think any Florida course (but maybe Streamsong) is a memory-maker
A course has to be highly rated first in order to be overrated. To me it seems like the consensus is nobody raves about it - the tour players complain about it for the API, the NLU guys have knocked it, etc. I play out there half a dozen times or so a year and my opinion is that during the Summer, it’s nothing special. During the Fall/Winter/Spring when the conditions are pure, it’s good and definitely worth playing at least once.
The Bay Hill Haters are wrong.
Bay Hill is a blast. It’s a very gettable PGA TOUR course that challenges you on a few holes and gives you tons of opportunities to feel like Tiger Rory.
I think it’s more indicative of the Orlando golf scene. Outside of golf sickos like us, when I talk with people about Orlando area golf, they’ll usually bring up Bay Hill, likely due to API. Because of this, it’s stature seems overinflated (at least to me).

I doubt that I will think any Florida course (but maybe Streamsong) is a memory-maker
They exist in FL, but few if any are in Orlando, and you’ll need to know someone to play most of them.
Gonna show my ass a bit here and say that for me, Bay Hill is more fun than the two Streamsong courses I’ve played (Black and Blue).
Bay Hill edges Streamsong Blue by a nose in my mind because of the API, it’s location (easy to actually get to), and the value (lots of ways to get on for a semi-reasonable price).
I’m with you and I really enjoy playing any of the courses at Streamsong. The only thing I could knock Bay Hill for is that holes 3-5 and 11-13 are laid out identically. But when the course is in season and it’s not 100 degrees outside, it’s hard not to have a good/memorable time out there. I think the front is world class and holes 16-18 are one of the better closing stretches in golf.
Central Florida experts, what’s the best Orlando / Kissimmee course? Is it Isleworth? Lake Nona?
Mountain Lake doesn’t count
This is a Josh question - he played all of them last week
Isleworth for sure but possibly Interlachen after their Fazio renovation next year.
