The Disney courses should be coming into form as they aerated in early October (normally they do it in September). I know that the ChampionsGate courses should be amazing right now as they are coming into tournament season locally.
Both OCN courses are good, WP9 is amazing, Dubsdread just aerated so not the best putting experience. I’ve been playing a lot at Black Bear, but that’s just because it’s my favorite place to practice. The course is always good, but the greens are slow.
I mean, it should shape up well for most people who slice. It’s really about the trees and that tiny ass window (not a big deal to Bryson it over the tops). That said, I’ve had a par on that hole twice typically because I try and fade it and instead as always the ball just goes straight and I end up on that service road that runs to the back range and then have some crazy shot into a hole with no margin for error due to the bunkering other than to hit it into the back ridge and hope it comes back down.
I’d argue the hate for 9 is from poor planning on the layout and the growth of the oak trees, whereas the hate for 17 is merely it being a proper ass test of golf, especially with any wind.
I like 17 simply because it forces you to make a decision. Cheat right and you can get a fuck ton of roll off the ridge sloping hard right to left.
Or leave the shot out to the left and be level with the green avoiding the difficulty of the elevation changes which comes with going the shortest route.
A fun hole. Also, usually where I typically hit my worst drive of the day. I did finally hit a good one 295, normal is 275, up the left 2 weeks ago and got my first par there in a year.
World Woods is fantastic. Championsgate CC is also great. Have heard nothing but great things about Black Diamond but as others have said, hard to get on and expensive.
Will be in Orlando nov 22-30 and looks like I’ll get to play Monday, Friday, and Saturday. All i see is play WP9 so I’m gonna try to do that but curious to know how far in advance they do tee times and how hard are they to get? I’d like to make two loops.
The other two rounds I’m open. I somewhat think maybe one round at the level of a Metrowest, Highland Reserve, Dubsdread, etc and one a little better maybe Grand Cypress, El Campeon, OCN, Championsgate, etc.
Open to suggestions, so let me know what looks good right now, what’s worth it, or whatever thoughts you have.
Changing it up. Gonna do a WP9 round with then some combination of Shingle Creek, Grand Cypress, Championsgate, OCN, El Campeon, or Falcon’s Fire. Monday, Friday, Saturday. Shingle Creek is pretty close to my hotel, so I kind of lean to that and El Campeon but still open. Any advice is appreciated!
Which OCN course is best to play?
I’m willing to do a drive for one of the courses, so figure El Campeon is the one based on what others have told me plus the price is pretty good.
Any thoughts on Shingle?
Never played shingle, I’d personally recommend Crooked Cat over Panther Lake, but honestly you can’t go wrong either way.
El Campeon has the craziest elevation changes in all of Florida.
I would say the New Course at Grand Cypress will really blow your mind, links style course with 1 and 18 being exact replicas of the Old Course.
Good luck with the 1910’s era green complexes @LeftHandLow. Take ridiculously extra clubs on 4 and 13, and watch out for the oak tree on the layup on 17.
