Roll Call: Omaha/Lincoln

It isn’t a tough walk from hole-to-hole, in fact it may be fastier/easier walking that part than going back to your cart and driving. However it is not the easiest property to walk. It can be done, just be ready.

I just played it for the first time on Friday last week. I walk 90% of the time otherwise, but I’m glad we took a cart. Some of those hills/slopes out there are pretty nuts, but agreed it wouldn’t be too bad from most greens to the following tee box. Even in a cart, Apple watch said I still walked 3 miles (lots and lots of walking 360 degrees around a putt to see it from all angles).

I imagine you’re bringing the 5 year old to these dining recs? So maybe more of bar and grill type spots than “nice restaurants?”

Correct. She’d be fine, but we are happy to skip the fine dining. Always up for an old mom and pop joint.

This is definitely overkill but here are the 100ish best places in town.

Takeout pizza from Orsi’s in Little Italy is incredible! My favorite in town.

I’d imagine everything in your area and north is gonna be PACKED. Try to get to Block 16. If you’re a hot chicken gui, Dirty Birds is a cant miss. Crescent Moon is a cool spot. Good night life in Blackstone

I remember paying $60 in 2004 because I won a two-man best ball match and the stakes were green fees, which was the highest stakes I’d ever played for as a grad student.

Adjusted for inflation, that would be $96 now so their recent rates were probably due for an increase. They were $70 last year? But $130 will definitely be an interesting business study for the area. We’re still in such a post-Covid golf boom in terms of rounds played in Nebraska but there’s always a cycle.

I will withhold judgement whether or not it’s worth $130, before all the work absolutely not, but who knows now! I also am trying to keep some perspective here, played with a buddy from Arizona last week who said he played 4-5 times all winter because golf was so damn expensive down there. Could be a lot worse.

Tbf id pay double the rate of Ironhorse to play a revamped QO…so in that frame $130 doesnt seem TERRIBLE.

On the flip side whenever im back in Neb / KS im reminded that golf rounds dont HAVE TO be $100+ regularly.

Does anyone here understand the scope of the reno? Are they just fixing some bunkers or going all in and ripping up the place? I’m not from Neb so QO was definitely a novelty the first time I played it but each time I’ve gone back it just more and more “meh”, maybe a bad take by me not sure.

Ope, I see it on the website. Looks extensive.

Their twitter has more progress pics.

The shave down of 9 fairway was very necessary but also kind of wild to do. I wonder if they’re depositing some of the dirt at the bottom of the valley before the green?

Just finished up at Landman. It was pretty awesome! Big ballpark, very wide but if you are out of position some tough approaches. HUGE greens and big undulations. Overall, a lot of fun! Staff were all great and very helpful. Starters course dog Martha was awesome. Ended up in the “milk carton” bunker on 18 and got up and down.

Alex Schaake from Omaha, high school at Creighton Prep, before playing at U of Iowa made it through US Open qualifying today at Springfield Country Club. No caddie, used a push cart. Made a 3-for-2 playoff in which one competitor made birdie on the first. Alex went another 7 holes before punching his ticket to LA with a putt at 9:12 pm.
