I also just found out last Friday that Uncle Sam is moving me to Omaha in January! Really stoked to play some golf out there, and get plugged in. I’m also down for suggestions on where to live or just general things to do and places to eat/drink.

The military course is sneaky good, used to play it in high school all the time
While I am not from Omaha (or living there, for that matter), my wife and her entire family are from Lincoln. They are members at Firethorn and CCL, so I get to play those courses quite a bit throughout the year. Would love to play with anyone in the area when I am there!

Lived in Omaha from '99 to 2008; in SF since then. Played all of the Munis consistently, but mostly Benson and Goodman because they were (are?) the best tracks. The Offut course was good, too, but really difficult. I always thought Dodge Park was a good value option next to the casino there. I’m hoping to play OCC one of these days. The US Senior Open went there a few years ago and looked great. I get back to the Big O every so often. I’ll try to connect with this group next time I’m there.

OCC has undergone massive reno of their bunkers and green complexes to accomodate USGA. It is outstanding.

And they tore out a ton of trees. The gungy patch there in the middle was all trees. there are several areas around the course with similar tree removal.
Every green was rebuilt as well, and IMO, way better for it. Seemed like they had been flattened out over time.

My in-laws live on the 11th fairway of Firethorn Golf Club, so with this great weather I’ve been able to play the past two days. Incredible conditions for the time of the year. Shot an 80 yesterday and a 77 today.

It looks so good, the only thing that bothers me is the switchgrass they planted around the bunkers, just doesn’t really fit the course imo
