I usually just try the Driver mega fade but double cross, punch out, mishit a 3h, layup, missed green, 2 putt. Routine 8
Iād second Benson for all reasons stated already. Indian Creek is great but the priciest for public golf in Omaha. Theyāve host a Korn Ferry Tour event there since 2017. Johnny Goodman is another public course (that and Benson are municipal courses) thatās centrally-located in Omaha that would be fun to play. Personally Iād skip Iron Horse. Overpriced for what it is and the staff there isnāt that great.
SO PROVOCATIVE!
Slow day in the coffee shop so this made me think of another masterpiece of a 14th hole at Bay Hills. Itās a 385y par 4, dogleg left, dogleg right. The tee aims you straight out of the tree lined chute, while the hole doglegs left. The landing area is ~25 yards wide with OB on either side requiring a 215-230 yard shot to have an unobstructed view to the green because of the next dogleg right, tree lined chute. Adding to the beauty, the landing area drops off into a ~30ā gully, so the likelihood of holding the landing area is very slim. IF you hit a perfect rope hook that stops at 225yds, you then have a 155y 20ā uphill shot to a two tiered green.
This kind of makes me want to create a composite all Nebraska Yuck Club.
Perhaps a Nebraska (and Council Bluffs) Yuck Club of just late dogleg holes. Iām no architecture expert, but Iām pretty sure itās in the early chapters of the textbook not to throw in a sharp dogleg well beyond the natural landing area of a previous shot.
May I present the the par 5 10th at Fox Run. I would believe you if you said three mid caps designed this course on a notepad in two hours.
I already would only go out there like once a year on a weekday because it was too expensive and a long drive, now Iāll probably skip it unless someone comes in from out of town and really wants to play there.
I did just talk to someone yesterday who puts on a scramble for a non profit and they said theyāre moving their tournament to Tiburon because Indian got too expensive. She said she knew of 3 or 4 others that were moving their tournaments as well so I wonder if this will come back to bite Indian in the long run.
Indian Trails in Beemer is also super fun. Kind of middle of nowhere probably less than an hour from Landmand. The greens are small and like inverted punch bowls so itās pretty challenging as well.
Iām hardly exaggerating to say weekdays Tiburon is an exclusive senior league and corporate events operation these days. Buddy had a gift card and we looked for availability every time when played and didnāt find a spot until late August.
O ya, Tiburon has basically turned into just corporate events and a couple leagues. I donāt ever go there because the course isnāt great and Gretna is far away but businesses like it because thatās all they do so apparently they do it well.
Did you ever play Yankee Hill before it got torn up? #11 was⦠the dumbest hole.
If weāre discussing yuck Nebraska Holes, the opener has to be the opener at Pac Springs. Either hit driver over a ravine to a three-tier green or hit 7-9 iron to have the same club in. Great way to start a roundā¦
Pac Springs #1 does indeed stink, but I like to think of it as a handshake hole, esp with no warm up range. Itās been a while but I think you can go a comfy 180 off the tee then have 130 in? Buzzkill but not unfair.
To be fair, Fox Run does have (or did last I was there) a really nice pork tenderloin sandwich.
That entire side is kind of āmehā. Thereās one hole where driver makes any sense (3 can be a driver hole with heavy wind from the southā¦as a left-misser, I hate that tee shot with driver). 9 is goofy, too.
Iāve always thought of PAC Springs as more of an executive course. Any career best total there has an asterisk. Different category.
Agreed.
Nah driver or 3 wood on 1 depending on if they have the tees up. 3, 4, 6 all drivers. 7, 3 wood or driver. 9 well⦠if you can hit the mega draw you leave yourself about a PW in lol
9 is fun if you can get a good line and shape the shot. I just think 1 is an unnecessary quirk to start the round. Yes, there is strategy involved depending on how you want to play it but, IMO, I donāt think you should start your round opting for driver into a weird green or mid/short iron then another one again.
If youāre hitting driver on all those holes on the front, youāre WAY more accurate or confident (and probably both) than I am with driver!
9 is fun, but itās a par 4 pretending to be a 5 in my mind. It is a good way to, as they always say on the broadcasts, āmake lunch/dinner taste a little better.ā
I just play my miss. 1 start it at the center and if it fades a little bit you are in that wide open area with a little pitch up the hill. 3 start it just left of the trees on the right let it fade in or if it draws you are just out to the left a little. 4 I just go right over the big tree on the left and let it fade in there. 7 aim out left and let those hills carry it on the green. Now that I am typing these out I realise you need a little height on your drives too lol
I agree #1 is a bad starting hole. I just made my decision to take the decision out of it every time. I get the carry number and make sure I can carry that. Then would rather take the short pitch and hopefully get the right teir on that than the short iron if you lay up. Idk might be flawed logic.
Totally agree with the #9 takes. I only hit driver there if I am playing in a scramble and it doesnāt matter. I normal just take a hybrid off the tee and if it draws great, if not it is enough tostay short of the bunker. But yeah it is a par 5 in name only not a great hole.
#10 stinks as well, driver or 3 wood go through the fairway if you are straight or fade. Have to hit a pretty good draw to get it up there close.
Certainly not my favorite course in town and I think it is over priced for what it is. On board with the executive course take. The real grass putt putt course is sick though!
