Roll Call: Omaha/Lincoln

+1 for Jason. Baller.

All their rates for fittings and simulator rentals are online, and you can book online as well which is very convenient. They also do lessons there. JR is their main instructor now. I’ve done a few with him and have had a great experience. They charge $60 for a 45-minute session or $40 for 30-minutes, which is tough to beat. Jason does lessons as well, but has limited availability. Simulator rental is $40 for 1 hour and $25 for 30-minutes last I checked.

+100 for Jason. He’s the man. I got fit for a driving iron and also had him look at my hybrid shaft. He fit me for a better hybrid shaft and traded me the demo shaft for my old one at no charge. Will never go anywhere else.

Who got their Landman tee times a few weeks ago?

I got one, my dad got another, and then planning on playing in the mid-amateur in August there as well. Four rounds up there this year is going to be special.

Did you play in Mid-Am last year?

I usually play out at Indian Creek (league and permanent tee time) and just got wind of their rate increases (3rd year in a row)

What do you all think? This is getting up there a bit, especially for Omaha. Definitely a great course but it’s getting a bit pricey, especially on the weekends. I’ve had a permanent Sunday tee time for a few years so I’ve always defaulted to that. However, I’m thinking of passing on the perm time this year due to the price increases. How and where do you all book your weekend golf? I feel like I’ve always had trouble finding a tee time at a decent public course on weekends, especially in the morning. Just camp out on the courses websites right when times go on sale?

IC is a nice course, but it’s not ā€œ$79 on a weekdayā€ nice.

Weekend golf is tough…I typically avoid it (teacher, so weekday golf is my go-to).

But…if you call around when tee times become available at most publics, I’ve not had problems getting times. A permanent tee time is a very nice thing to have, but I understand not wanting to pay the increased fee for it.

I think I was paying $45 ish to walk on weekdays last year? Going up to $57 isn’t small potatoes, and crossing the 50 barrier seems to be bigger than going from 35 to 47 for some reason.

This puts it in Quarry Oaks territory, but, as you may have read above, Quarry is closed for all of 2023.

I unfortunately did not. Kid #2 was born the week before a few weeks early, so had to scrap those plans. I have a friend who did and said it was a great experience though.

This is tough, I truly believe indian creek is worth that, and maybe even more? But it’s just tough to justify paying that when I feel like 2 years ago I was paying $65 with a cart on a weekend… It really steers me away from having that be the place for a walking e9 after work, not gonna pay $35 for that.
I am glad they at least haven’t raised prices on range offerings, at least from what I can tell. That’s the best public course to practice at in town

$65 to walk isn’t too horrible, in my opinion, but riding for $87 on the weekend with seemingly no option for a twilight rate after 3pm or 4pm is too steep even for a great track like Indian Creek. I’m pretty sure my guest fee to play Players Club is $90ish and for about the same price, I’d favor PC 4 out of 5 times over IC.

Pretty much every public course allows you to book tee times 7 days in advance, some are 14 days. I don’t have an issue finding a time provided that I call / go online early in the morning as soon as the times open up. I’ve shifted to playing a lot more Friday golf to avoid weekends though, but that’s a perk of a flexible work schedule.

My dad and my brothers and I are coming into the area to play Landmand in June. Wanted to see where else we should play in the general area. From my reading, seems that Indian Creek, Quarry Oaks, and Iron Horse are popular? Any other ones we are missing from our research?

If you’re looking for something lower fee for one round Benson at $25 walk, $41 ride on weekdays would be the standout in the low price tier. And Quarry is closed for the season for renovations.

If you are thinking about the Omaha area specifically, then I’d second the recommendation on Benson. Lots of fun, good condition, price is right. Closer to Landmand, the Oakland Golf Club in Oakland, NE is weirdly good. Small town, fun layout, one VERY provocative par 5…hidden gem.
