My bad the top pic is the double green/triple fairway at Tatanka. Didn’t snap any at old Dane but it was like a flat compact Wildhorse. Whoever manages that turf knows what they’re doing. I’ve never had more fun playing my worst golf.
Hi folks, Omaha native and resident here, longtime NLU fan but first time poster. Looking for recommendations on golf trips out to western NE or northeast NE (courses, prices, best dates to go, possible access to private courses, etc.) or any other fun NE trips you’ve taken.
Wild Horse is the spot for public courses. Anytime I go somewhere else, I wish I would have just played more rounds at WH instead. I like going during the week because it’s rarely busy out there.
Wild Horse is a must-play 100%
As far as more north-eastern Nebraska, I know @jefranks30 will stand alongside me in saying that Oakland’s 18-hole course is top-notch, and allows public play. Where exactly where you looking?
Central/West
Wildhorse $50 play it twice, at least.
Awarii Dunes $50
Bayside $75
N/NE
Frederick Peak $21 10 holes
Tatanka $75? Might be an all day price
Old Dane $13 9 holes
Crofton Lakeview 9 holes
Have not played prairie or dismal
Hear good things about Centura Hills and Heritage hills.
Pelican Beach and Augusta Wind are on my list but I’m a big fan of hidden gems.
Make at least 2 stops at Pals Brewery in North Platte anytime you go by on I-80
Go to Wild Horse, stay in the cabins, skip everything else (unless you can get on SH, Dismal, or Prairie Club).
Heritage Hills is good from what I remember! The front 9 is so-so, but the back was pretty cool
If I’m going West, it’s Wild Horse vs the field. Unless like Q said you want to go all the way to Prairie Club. That place in awesome. And Frederick Peak is the 10 holer in town that you need to stop at.
I’d stop on Heritage Hills on your way to Ballyneal…I believe Ballyneal does one unaccompanied round in your lifetime, similar to Sand Hills.
If I’m heading Northeast (and it’s 2022) it’s Landmand. Tatanka is one you’ll find on a bunch of lists, and it’s a cool course, but it is not well maintained at all. Probably worth seeing once. I’m about 5 rounds in and am okay if I never go back. If you want to poke up into SD, The Bluffs in Vermillion is a nice spot. Crofton 9 holer is nice. Ponca’s 9 holer is legit.
If you’re staying closer to Omaha, Fremont CC is a nice stop. Roll that into Oakland CC and you’ve got the start to a pretty nice trip. Could round that off with Indian Trails in Beemer, although that’s not my favorite course.
Hey all, Law here from CT and NYC Metro chapter of RACDG. Will be in Omaha July 2nd -9th. Looking to play willow, Benson and johnny Goodman. Anyone available to join me at any of those and what days work for y’all. I hopped into RACDG what’s app but not much happening in there.
Early welcome to the Good Life! I know some people are playing in an amateur event that weekend at Indian Creek, if you would like to add that to your list, I’ll be playing a practice round some day that week. You would have to pay green fee, but I would love to play with another refugee
indian creek was a lot of fun. Played it twice already though and really want to play some of the other places here in Omaha. Have an 8:09 at Willow lakes, room for 2 more anyone else interested?

How does the one unaccompanied round in your lifetime work at Sand Hills? I remember Soly talking about this during the Australia Tourist Sauce season in the Tara Iti episode, but can’t find much else on this. Write a letter to the course, call the clubhouse and beg, something else? Lol. It would be a dream to play it, even just once.
I’ve written a letter for 3 years straight, and all I’ve gotten in return was a phone call back stating they might have a time 2 years from now (lol). But hey, at least contact was made!
I have not gone the clubhouse and beg route…I would be curious what they said if someone called and asked. Just a general “what’s the best way to do this”.
Or just be @QMany and have a baller contacts list
I have a buddy that was successful writing the club. It took about a year to get a response, but he got on with his dad and brother for an unaccompanied bucket list weekend. That was two years ago.
Anybody else playing the Indian creek invite? Very glad to see they are letting us 7 hcps play the whites and avoid all those bastard fairway bunkers.
Hamsterdam: Watching the Senior Open on DVR to check out OCC. No commercials, thanks Rolex, but the broadcast stinks. Endless series of putts from high tower cams looking down, giving zero context to the hole and the course. Tight shot of guy teeing off on par 3, then switch to tight cam of it landing on green.
Couldn’t quite figure out what was so terrible until it slapped me across the face at minute 28: the first down-the-line shot of a player taking a full swing! A pretty standard angle to leave out. It was on the par 3 fifth, a few minutes later they showed a different hole on the back 9. So maybe they only have two ground cameras out there? And they’re barely using them. But they did have the money to send a crew to Kenny Perry’s house so we could learn about his car collection.
Lol Nebraska hired Trev Alberts as AD? The megablowhard as an analyst.
Jumping in to dunk on an already down athletics department? Thought you were better than that Tronald
We’re a Tommie Frazier hire away from having the whole 90s squad back together.
