Launderers gonna launder.
That’s gotta be the coolest money laundering scheme in Ohio
EDIT - @joecline41 made the joke first. Damnit…beat me by a minute
Couldn’t help it. I work in banking and that sounds like something pulled right from an AML test. Is this guy charging more to use a card? Not supposed to do that either.
Anyone here have experience with joining a club in central Ohio? In the next year I’ll be looking and I’m curious on everyone’s experiences. I live NW of Columbus in Ostrander FWIW.
Standby. There are at least a few here that are members at clubs in the Columbus area
Anybody want to play Raintree in akron tomorrow? have an 8:20 tee time and need at least 1 person maybe 2 to complete the foursome
I’m already playing tomorrow but I appreciate the invite. I think Raintree is kind of sneaky pretty good. Doesn’t drain very well but the greens have some nice movement
Its decently fun. Nothing to write home about but for the price its got some good holes
I’m a member and big fan of the Kinsale/Scioto Reserve combo. Having access to two different courses is nice and the golf membership and events are great.
With that said I also like Wedgewood a lot. I love the course at Tartan but I’m not a fan of the ownership.
Co-Captained the winning Ryder Cup team at Scioto Reserve yesterday. That was one of the best days I’ve had out there in my 16 summers. To get to stand around the scoreboard with the win already in hand as the last singles matches finished and get to celebrate with your closest friends was the dream come true.
Played with @FanFirst, @Ohiojohnny, and @skip_muldoon this weekend. I’ve now met and played with nearly a dozen Fugees, and we are still batting 1.000. Great day, gents.
Nice social distancing and mask usage!
What negatives have you heard about Tartan? Rumors are abound that cash flow there isn’t great and it may not be around for too long, at least in its current state.
I have little to no experience with private golf in the area, so any insight you can provide would be great.
First off, where are you located and what’s the general drive time to the clubs? I can assure you that being within 10 minutes to your range / 1st is a huge factor.
It was a blast! We’re incredibly lucky to have this community full of great people - always a good time getting out with fellow refugees.
Great takes by 2PuttBogey.
Disclaimer: I’m an east-sider and can’t speak intelligently about the membership experience or management at the clubs in NW Columbus. But have played the courses so offering my take on the courses. Take it with the appropriate grain of salt.
Wedgewoood, Tartan, and Scioto Reserve are all great layouts. Good variety of holes. Some reachable par 5s, short par 4s, and nice slope on the greens. Of those three, I think Scioto Reserve is the easiest to get from a scoring perspective, followed by Wedgewood, then Tartan (which always seems to play brutal when I’m there because the wind seems to be hurting on some of the toughest holes).
In Columbus, once you take Muirfield Village, the Golf Club, Scioto, and Double Eagle out of the mix (I’d personally rate the courses in that order, but could flip the top 2 depending on the day) and look at clubs that are more realistic to join, I would say the next tier of courses (again, not evaluating the membership experience or other amenities) includes Wedgewood, the Lakes, and Tartan. After that I’d have a larger tier that includes Scioto Reserve, Pinnacle, Columbus Country Club, Jefferson, Brookside, and New Albany (disclaimer, I’ve heard great things about Medallion, but have never played there). Lots of other excellent courses after that–like Kinsale, Country Club at Muirfield, etc.–since Columbus is unfortunately dominated by private club golf.
Sounds like you have a fun decision to make. Good luck!
I’m a member at Northstar (semi-private) but will most likely be switching to Rattlesnake Ridge in the spring. N* is in the worst condition I’ve ever seen it, although they just hired a new Super to try to get it fixed up.
Here’s the clubs I looked into:
York - not a big fan of the course, but the price is right. Currently full but taking wait list
Kinsale/Scioto Reserve - Was close to going with this over RR but my friend is a member there and said getting good tee times has been a struggle, even with two courses.
The Lakes - $30k initiation, lol
Medallion - Price is right but currently full, wait list.
Brookside - $12k initiation…too much for me.
I played Northstar on Saturday with some guys from work. Pretty shocking you say it’s in the worst shape you’ve seen, it seemed great to me. Must be pristine normally.
I’m with you on York. Great price, but the course isn’t my favorite. I’m in Ostrander, so Kinsale is among the closest options to me. I’ve seen the price list and it’s definitely an option. Might be a tad higher than I was hoping, but having two courses is a plus. The two Dublin clubs are the other two that are closest to where I live.
Would you happen to be an ASU grad?
Yep. Guess the unimaginative name gives it away. Was there during the Paul Casey years.
