Roll Call: Ohio (OATW adjacent) and localized ice cream debates (Part 1)

I’m looking to get out Monday and/or Tuesday AM. My bet would be based on what’s available Manakiki is aerating those days. Sleepy Hollow just did theirs. Brookledge and Shawnee will be 2 weeks clear from theirs by early next week. Just called Fowler’s and they aren’t doing theirs till the 29th.

Can anyone comment on the walkability of Fowler’s? Have only played it once and it was years ago.

I’m coming from Wooster and need to be back there before 3. It’s about an hour from Cleveland. I’d also be game to walk.

I walked it the one time I played and it definitely isn’t exactly set up perfectly for it but it’s doable. You will earn your cold beers on the closing stretch but other than that it’s just a few weird green-tee transitions.

I’ve only been once and rode. If you’re a regular walker, it will be a good trek. Not the worst walk in NE Ohio but definitely not the easiest. The property moves a bit but you aren’t walking up/down or across any serious elevation changes. Not that I remember anyway.

@FunctionFindingForm would say walk it no problem but he could walk Kapalua or Crans-sur-Sierre and not break a sweat!

Coming from Wooster, Fowler’s is about 1.5 hours. Some other options closer would be Pine Hills in Hinkley (walkable), Shale Creek in Medina (not walkable), Sleepy Hollow (walkable but recently aerified).

As someone firmly (or would it be not firmly) in the Thicc boi club, I’ve just rejoined the walking scene after about 15 years away. So far this year I’ve only walked Seneca (easy) and Brookledge (easy after #7).

Late to the thread, but Born and raised in Toledo as well, member at Belmont CC, let me know if you’re ever looking to play!

I could be up for a round depending on when my boss is out of the office next week…will know more after tomorrow. Haha

Lots of courses have punched their greens and/or fairway in the past week or so though.

Belmont is a blast. I love that course. Hardest 18th hole in NW Ohio

F that hole!
Only one i have left in a birdie comp. for this year…

has not been going well, getting worse. lol

That is NOT a good hole to have to birdie. Fuck. I can’t even imagine that one being your missing piece.

basically comes down to having to dunk it off a drop from 190+ out…

Its an odds game now., only a matter of time, right?

Good morning my Cincinnati brethren. I will be in the area for a surprise birthday party on Saturday and am looking for a morning round on Sunday with my brothers in law (3 golfers total). Based on looking around I’ve deduced that every morning tee time has been booked, so I’m humbly coming to ye asking again (a la Bernie) is there anyone out there willing (and able) to host some eager golfers?

Nobody:

Me: Here’s what I know about aeration around town so far
Manakiki: 9/21 and 9/22
Sleepy Hollow: just done this week
Fowlers: Not till end of month
Brookledge and Shawnee: have been done at least 2 weeks, so should be good (or whatever they would normally be considered)
Seneca: 9/21 and 9/22
Big Met: I was told “last week” so should be back to normal soon.

Aerated greens are after only playing with assholes and slow play on my list. I know it’s a necessary evil, but I’ll gladly play a lesser course while waiting for another course to heal.

Ok, time for some actual work.

It looks like your best bet will be Woodland out on the west side. It’s a 9 hole track but there are a bunch of slots Sunday morning so you could probably make a second loop.

If you are willing to make the drive, there appear to be a few open times at some places north of 275 (Heatherwoode and Beckett Ridge).

Wish I could help out more directly. All courses have been absolutely slammed this year.

If you’re picking between those 2, then Heatherwoode > Shaker Run

Beckett Ridge was a disaster a couple months ago. The new owner was working out of an RV and charging credit cards using the machine from the local shell gas station they owned. Super sketch. Unless someone here can vouch for the course in the last few weeks I wouldn’t even consider that course for a couple years.

Played shaker last weekend. It was a soggy mess per the usual. The greens were ok. The course layout is really good but it’s been a struggle to maintain for a while now. Seems to always be super wet.

Heatherwoode is probably my favorite course in SW Ohio (I’m not a CC kid).

Wow I knew BR was in bad shape but had no idea. Only suggested it because there are literally no open tee times in the city before noon.
