Dont forget to add The Lakes and Medallion to the super affordable and accessible category near you.
Bent Tree is a public option not too far from you that fits your criteria I believe.
I am a social member at Northstar so I could host a mini grouping there sometime but it is a bit pricey for guest fee they raised it to $95 this year including cart.
Buddy and I planned to go play 18 around noon today, but we both thought the other was making the tee time. Realized this morning we didnāt have one, but figured a Friday afternoon with 5 local-ish courses would mean we could get on somewhere.
2 courses not open yet despite it being 75 degrees out and decent weather all week
1 said they were absolutely slammed
1 said they had no way to squeeze two in, even after I asked if we could go out with another twosome (this place is by my buddyās house, so we just showed up there. As we drive away, we didnāt see a single player on holes 4-6, then when we drove by again at 330, we saw one twosome on those holes in total)
Last course said they could get us out at 2:50, but carts needed to be back by 6 (sunset was 7:40 today), so we could only play 9
Westerville has a solid driving range complex even though itās packed. The Golf Depot (I think the name changed) is a good summer range with a cool view!
Someone said Darby as a solid option I would definitely agree with that as a walkable 18. Easier front 9 and you hang on for dear life on the back
Yeah, itās definitely in line with other private clubs in the area I believe, but the past few years Iāve been a member it was in the $60-$75 range which was a steal at that price.
No name and not an official event but I can host up to 7 guests at a time at lake forest in Hudson. Can do a Saturday or Sunday in early June or July if people are interested.
Wanted to circle back to the event planning earlier discussion. Findlay is always on the books early and it seems weāve had kind of lackluster attendance recently. I agree that earlier planning is advantageous but I think maybe Ohio summers also are just so jam packed for our 4 months in the sun.
If we want to, I could easily cancel the Findlay event, let someone else host the major, find a course that would charge more than $100 for an entire day of golf plus donation. Easily doable in all of those central locations.
I understand Iāve been a little passive towards all of this but the amount of work that goes into this stuff isnāt exactly easy. The amount of work Iāve tried to do in the last four years to make this somewhat enjoyable appears to be losing any positive momentum.
Iāve said it before, but every weekend at least 30% (Iām guessing) someone in our group has something going on. If I make someone else happy then someone else is pissed off. Itās an impossible thing to balance and Iām sorry that we are at the mercy of Mother Nature on when we are allowed to golf.
I love the findlay event and was not trying to stir anything up. I will always attend. I was simply trying to point out that Ohio summers are a fast and furious time and scheduling early might not mitigate attendance.
Thank you is not something you probably hear enough, Joe. Thank you for all you do. Sincerely.
You are doing an awesome job making this event possible for those that are able to go.
I was just trying to respond to Colinās question about why attendance has been waning, not trying to cause anything more. Apologies if it came off differently.
I enjoyed the one year I was able to go, but itās just a really tough time of the year for me personally to make the trek.
Got the bump that some of yall mightāve missed the memo, but weāve got some spots open for a Forest Dunes trip in MI come September. Jump on over, check it out, hit my DMs if youāre interested
One final bump for the last two spots for this. Will be opening it up in a week or so to non OATW/non refuge folks, so if you want to come join us for a very fun weekend of golf and good times, DM/Text/Slack/call/telegraph/carrier pigeon me and I can give you the rest of the details
Possibly the most excited Iāve ever been to play Fox Den? Weekend forecast turned from opportunities to turds so I snuck out and got 17 in (skipped 3 around a glacial/clueless 4some). Path only doesnāt matter when you walk
Just catching up on the Ohio thread as Iām hopefully coming out of golf hibernation in the next week. I havenāt played outdoors since mid October. Have played a decent amount indoors.
Anyways, itās likely The Lakes wonāt actually get Final Qualifying this year. The only way they will host is if the number of entries goes higher than what can be hosted at one course (I believe that might be 70-80ish). With the limited field at the Memorial and most of them already being qualified itās unlikely they will reach that number.
Kinsale was supposed to be the other course to host last year but stepped aside for the same reason in exchange for definitely hosting this year.
There are 2 spots open to join @PlumbBobMillionaire and myself at Safari tomorrow at noon for some actual outdoor golf. Let me know if anyone would like to join!
