3rd Annual OATW Almost Qualifier - June 3rd, 2025

Why are we doing an event on a Tuesday?
Do you want to test yourself?
Do you want to flex your LCP?
Do you want to see what your score would look like compared to a pro?
Do you just enjoy punishment?
Are you a true sicko?
How would I compare to those attempting to qualify for the U.S. Open?

The Tuesday after U.S. Open Qualifying at Springfield Country Club, we will be having an OATW Signature event to see what USGA conditions look like. Pin placements will be the same as those used for the U.S. Open Qualifier.

Because of the limited nature of the event, priority will be given to OATW Nest members that were not able to play last year. At midnight on May 4th, any repeat offenders on the waitlist will be used to fill any open spots.

What - OATW Almost Qualifier
When - Tuesday, June 3

  • Registration at 12:00 PM
  • First Tee Time at 1:00 PM

Where - Springfield Country Club, Springfield, OH
Cost - $160/per person. $60 due on sign up

Signup will be through Unknown Golf (https://ukg.golf/q?ac=OKYs7FPN). When signing up on Unknown Golf you’ll be assigned to the waitlist. Once you Venmo me (@strickfaden, Last 4 8961) the initial $60 non-refundable payment you’ll get moved to the confirmed list. The remainder will be due on May 4th.

Again, I cannot stress this enough, but if you have not experienced this you should really do it. It is such a fun time getting humbled, you won’t regret it. Of course I’m hoping that there is still a spot left for me when its all said and done, but I will not be salty if a bunch of newbies get a chance to play.

To confirm, since it’s non-refundable, I assume repeat offenders do not pay the $60 deposit and just pay full amount once we have a confirmed spot?

Want to make sure you don’t have to deal with a bunch of refunds if the field fills up with fresh blood.

Good call for clarification. Repeat offenders should register and save their spot on the waitlist but hold off on the deposit.

I’m officially signed up and deposit paid!

I also have an incredibly understanding wife who is letting me do this on our anniversary.

I’ve always wanted to play a PGA Tour course right before/after a tournament was held there so this is going to be pretty dang close to that. I’m pumped.

I’ll echo what was said above. I really hope to get to play again, but it is an amazing experience that I hope more people get to enjoy.

I’d argue 2 of my 3 best ball striking rounds happened at Springfield, and I did not break 90 either time and played with 1 ball both rounds.

Oh boy. I’m scared.

Honestly, the amount of lost balls is an under appreciated stat at a golf course. SCC is just not set up to lose a ton of balls. You are more likely to lose it in the rough than OB or water.

I’m assuming not since it wasn’t mentioned but will we have caddies/forecaddie?

And is it walking or riding?

The answer to both of those doesn’t matter to me either way I just like to know what I’ve gotten myself into lol

No caddies. It isn’t that fancy of a place.

The cost has riding built in because it is easier. Some do choose to walk, but depending on the weather, you may regret that.

If it’s warm, SCC gets VERY warm for some reason.

I love this course more than most i’ve ever played.

For sure. The small group that made the first one of these knows all too well. It was mid day on the Saturday and carts weren’t allowed. It was so damn hot.

On the plus side. It gets extra spicy. The fairway bounces are electric.

Can confirm. I like to think I’m in decent shape and thought I might pass out on 17 hah.

Couldn’t agree more, it’s an absolute gem.

While I hope there are enough spots for some of us on the waitlist, I can’t recommend this event enough for any newbies on the fence. It’s so fun while still being incredibly humbling for everyone except @jack67

This is so weirdly accurate. Last year I think it was in the low 80’s, but it felt 10 degrees hotter. Very happy we decided to ride

Watching @jack67 that day was one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen on a golf course.

Hi all - tried to follow the link but I don’t believe I am part of the OATW roost yet. I did fill out the info to join, but haven’t heard anything. I’m in Cincinnati. Can anyone help with that?

For the link, you need to sign up for Unknown Golf and join the OATW community.

@jgolf1. Can you set him up on OATW membership?

Thanks! Yes, I need OATW membership.

We are officially 5 weeks out from the day. If you are on the wait list, as soon as you Venmo the deposit, I will move you into the field. We still have spots open and I am going to open it up to anyone starting now.

If you are on the fence, maybe these will help.

The opening tee shot with a blind landing area.

Let the putting adventure begin.

A gettable par 5 for us mortals to help you recover from Hole 1

The visual games continue. Is there room to miss this green? You may have to do some course prep to find out.
