Roll Call: North Carolina

Thanks - pretty funny how many backup plans we came up with after our first location (Milan) got hit hard first. Just kept checking them off.

Course looks awesome - played a bunch in the Myrtle area with buddies but never made it out there.

Should be. You’re a full member just reduced rates as you won’t be using facilities as frequently due to living out of town.

From their membership guide:

Non-Resident Membership

• Members who reside outside of Burke County.

• Member, spouse, or domestic partner, and dependents age 26 and under, and are full time students, have access to all club facilities.

Sweet, thanks!

I sneak out there too…shhhhh! I live in neighborhood behind holes 1 & 2. Its open again but only open to residents right now because of the Rona. I hear they are building a clubhouse with a bar.

Glen Dornoch is worth checking out. There are some really good holes (3, 4, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, and 18). The biggest gripe was always the slow greens, but they switched over to Champions Bermuda (or a variety close to that) in 2018, so that’s not a problem anymore.

8 out of 18 holes being ā€œreally good holesā€ is a good sign.

I hear ā€œswitched to bermudaā€ and my heart sinks

When it peaks, Bentgrass is the best. However, it struggles a lot in the summer. Couple that with heavy traffic, it’s a recipe for disaster from mid June until September.

oh yeah down there for sure, as an upper midwest guy originally I’ve come to really despise the bermuda greens.

I’m used to it at this point, and it sure beats greens becoming mudpits in the summer due to having to over water them.

Agreed 100%, and I just seem to make my way down to NC enough times a year to frustrate myself. @Fore20 (happy birthday btw too) owns me over at Mill Creek

Have any of y’all played Highlands CC in Highlands, NC? My buddy is trying to get me to drive 3 hours this next weekend to play there, and it doesn’t seem worth $120.

3 hours and $120 it better be damn good

Highalnds is one of those areas in the mountains where there is a lot of money with vacation homes. I’m sure the course is very good. I’ll ask a buddy to confirm

I’m not concerned with it being in good shape, but for $120 bucks and a 3 hour drive there better be some MFn width and angles. And a bidet, maybe even 2.

I’ve actually been to Highlands. My high school GF parents had a cabin in Cashiers. Beautiful area.

He said its a great course, it’ll make you work your ball (his words not mine). Always in great condition. He’s a D1 golfer so if he says its a great course I’d say it worth doing it.

Yes, that area is very beautiful and this time a year I’m sure the weather will be perfect.

Work your ball screams tight fairways, and he seems better than me haha. I’m not sure I wanna go lose a ton of balls trying to hit shot shapes… Thanks for the info though!
