Awesome! Two of my friends love that place and I went with them in February for the first time. Definitely an interesting course. Crazy it was #7 on GD hardest courses right next to Merion I believe. Just passed along the news and they’re pumped. Hopefully we can get down and see it again soon.
Sidenote, I think I paid $30. Was the guy just hooking me up as doesn’t sound like that is normal rate?
A get together is gathering at Tobacco Road on Sunday 4/5 with the first tee time at 1000am. Currently 5 or 6 ball strikers are attending but there is room for more. This is a Carolinas RACDG sanctioned event.
Call TR and book yourself in the 10:00 or 10:10 tee time on Sunday. Proshop is closed so it’s prepay over the phone only.
We have rules: Cap it at two foursomes so to not exceed the NC rule of 10. We won’t gather as a group before or after the round. Single carts or walking already required by the course. Maintain 6ft on greens and tees (hold you driver at an arms length for perspective). Gimmies inside the leather. If you or anyone in your family has any symptoms stay home. Don’t be a scumbag.
Are you on the Carolinas WhatsApp? If not join message @Double_Bogey_Dave
Got this last year when it came up. Solid course, really enjoyed it out there. If making a road trip, I recommend pairing this round with a stop at either Parker’s bbq (cash only), or Beefmaster Inn (plan to tailgate before dinner).
It is tight! Greens are fine. I live across the street from YCC. Used to play there 3-5/wk. Members sold to an individual 10+ yrs ago and he ran it into the ground. Current operators are doing great work but had to start at sub zero. Don’t expect perfect lies. Play winter rules everywhere. Keep in mind that it is 1000% better than it was a year ago. Some good holes too. No 7 fabulous. I hope you enjoy it.
Pine Hollow is pretty good. You can always head 45 minutes to an hour south and play Southern Pines $29 to walk, $49 to ride (despite what the rates on their website say)
If you head to Durham, I’d recommend Umstead Pines and Hillandale.
Not golf related but if anyone in the New Hanover or Brunswick County areas, a janitorial supply company called Coaker in Wilmington has plenty of supplies if you’re running low. Plenty of toilet paper, gloves, hand sanitizer, soap, disinfectants, etc.
Hopefully this ends sometime soon but if ppl need more supplies and grocery stores are out, this place has a full stock.
