It’s a story that needs to be told. I wish the city would understand what it is and what it could be. It needs to be saved.

i dont think the city realizes what it is in terms of golf architecture, but i think they realize the importance of it and the need for it to remain in the city

they have put a bunch of money into it over the recent years with the practice facility upgrades, etc so i dont really think its in danger of going any where as far as the course is concerned

doubt they are going to put any money into it for a restoration or anything like that though just like city of WS isnt going to restore reynolds park any time soon

I played it a bunch in middle and high school matches. Conditioning always put me off and I just decided it sucked. Now that I have a better appreciation for architecture I might give it another shot

What is the name of the fitting thread?

I am planning on doing a driver fitting in a month or so. What were your thoughts?

I believe the Bryan Foundation gave the money for the practice facility and was involved in getting Kelly Phillips from Sedgefield to run it. He teaches a lot of top tier high school and college kids out of there.

nice…yeah i remember bryan foundation and wyndham both being involved in some of the upgrades that were made out there

I’ve been meaning to get out there when I visit Greensboro bc I read up on its role in the Civil Rights movement—there’s a pretty good article in the Journal of African-American History from a few years back. I’ll poke around the see if I can find a non-paywall version.

Kelley is the absolute GOAT. I would recommend anyone go see him

Oh wow! That is a really cool look with the very blue skies, trees, sand, dead grass, and green grass. Is this track private?

Yea, they keep it in great shape all year. It’s semi private, offhand I don’t know what typical rates are. Nice part is that on a semi chilly day, the course is usually empty.

I know they raised the rates this past fall… local rate went up to $85 and not sure what out of town rate is… have the new Bermuda greens sped up? They were brand new when I played in November

Yea the greens are usually pretty quick. Even after rain, they tend to still play quick

GroupGolfer has Benvenue CC up today for $35.

Long-time lurker, first time poster. Tourist Sauce Carolinas motivated me to finally #getinvolved.

I live in Durham and play at the Duke U Golf Club. Would love to meet up with some local folks at some point.

Also, bonus: long story, but I have access to Dormie Club for the next few months. Would be happy to host some Refugees…guest fees are a relatively reasonable $125.
