Thanks @BushwoodCaddie
I was about to dispute this but then I looked at Google Maps and realised youāre exactly right. I canāt think of a single public course within 485 loop that is worth playing and thatās depressing.
correct, i bought one for UNC Finley and it expired while they were closed punching the greensā¦i called them and the dude at the course was like dont worry we will honor the value of it
Thatās been my experience with the GroupGolfer deals, @Fore20 & @raleighdawg. Me and @CrucialTaunt had an issue at RGA once where the only valued the amount of the discount over peak rate, so when we showed up for a late afternoon / twilight round they only gave a portion of the discount, which was kinda messed up. Everywhere else has honored the voucher for whatever you paid for it.
I would dispute this. Yes, the public golf scene within 485 is abysmal. But Sifford is definitely worth playing, albeit its only 9. I like Harry Jones - its rough around the edges, but I think the design alone makes it worthwhile to play at least once. I certainly wouldnāt say Iād rather not play than go there.
But yes, in terms of a polished public track that compares to a private club, weāre lacking.
Homies - I am still deployed for a couple months but jonesing to play some G. We all love/hate TR, but wanted to get some feedback to see if anyone would be interested in Sep/Oct TR meetup if I started to put it together. 18 holes on the road then shootout or something on El Camino. Let me know
Once Spring hits and dries the place out a little come play Grassy Creek and Mt. Mitchell. Beautiful mountain courses and public.
I would also recommend Boone Golf Club and Mt.Glenn (both also public).
All are within an hours drive of East Tenn!
We need to get you on the Carolinas RACDG WhatsApp thread. I am thinking about putting something together in the Sandhills.
Would love to do TR if we can get on for a reasonable price (they charges $185 last September).
Send me a DM with your phone number.
you have my number. and i am already in the thread.
Iām totally game.
I would be interested in a TR meet up.
Does Mt Mitchell ever dry out? I have never been there when it wasnāt carts on path and wet. Some great holes though, and I love looking at the trout while on the 2nd tee.
Boone is a lot of fun. Mountain Glenās front is fine but I think the back gets a little goofy.
Grassy Creek is an interesting place with the tennis court stuck out in the middle of the front nine- this was so they could get a sports club license to sell alcohol. Made the club a fortune before the laws changed. Had there own beer store in the parking lot!
Good news re: Tot Hill. They officially have new management coming in. Given these guysā track record, I would expect good things. Might take until May for it to be noticeable, but itās going to get better. Strantz truthers rejoice
It does dry out, the redemption when it doesnāt are the views and the greens. Grassy Creek is my home club, the golf course was the spot before the County passed the sale of alcohol. Used to have an up-stairs speak easy-ish bar in the top of the clubhouse. Grassy Creek is really unique man, its totally sustained by members right now which keeps it a cool small town vibe, but the future is uncertain with the financials. Cheap membership dues are attractive to a relatively low income area. I enjoy playing there and knowing virtually everyone I see out there.
Charlotte checking in. Play at Monroe CC
Thatās awesome⦠are you at liberty to say who bought it?
Canāt wait to get out there when the weather turns.
Same owners. Just a new management group. Same guys that manage Forest Oaks in GBO along with Meadowlands and Oak Valley in Winston.
Also, good to see another Yellow Jacket in here. Whatās the good word?
To hell with GA! I know thereās a dog or two on here⦠
Where are you out of? Iām on the north side of GSO.
Charlotte, but I play most of my golf after meetings in Raleigh or Pinehurst, which is where I am most weeks
Got a 9:33AM tee time at Southern Pines on Saturday with 2 spots open if anyone is interested in joining.
