Thank you. I’m not a power user and usually mess up where to post. I did try and scan the right spot for the Q but obviously not hard enough. Appreciate the guidance.
The three triangle university courses are all really good and are the best public options in the area. The ranking just comes down to preference, perhaps biased, I like Lonnie Poole > Duke > Finley. Just a heads up, it’s 2 hours between Wake Forest (Winston-Salem) and Raleigh. There’s a town called Wake Forest near Raleigh but the university moved to Winston-Salem in the 50’s (RJ Reynolds wanted a university in W-S). If you somehow have the opportunity to play Wake’s course (Old Town) do it.
Tremendous. Thanks.
Are the local weather folks as bleak about the forecast down there as the national folks next week?
Our February trip is always a crapshoot, but I’m hoping it’s all wrong like it can be sometimes.
Duke because it’s longer, Finley $40M renovation is complete, Lonnie Poole and the fairway bunkers
Check Finley for deals through and of Feb ‘25, they have two NCAA tournaments this year plus NIL/Bellichixk so the course availability is tighter than normal
@BkBryant23 if you’re a single then they will get you out there in the afternoon - the NCAA regionals may end up at Finley early May so there will be a lot of people trying to get on the course after that
LP stretches to 7300, but they rarely have the competition tees out. I have no business looking at those tees.
Please don’t get me wrong, I love the course. And LP has wonderful people running the place. Duke will start remodel soon, guessing <2 years, it has a great bar and practice green for after the round. The course plays longer than the yardage because of the elevation changes. There is a lot of dark blue around so I can see the problem.
I don’t need to be right here, the location of Lonnie Poole just isn’t great for me. The Palmer design and Sandhills references is really well done.
Hey, thanks! Much appreciated. I am guessing wedding start time will interfere with playing on that Saturday afternoon but I will keep an eye on things.
Tell me more about who is remodeling the Duke course.
I’d go for Lonnie over the other 2.
If you are talking about this week, then yes. It’s going to rain a lot.
Go ahead and throw Campbell’s 27 holes of Maples design at Keith Hills (18 Ellis + 9 Dan) on there and though we’ve never played it and while it’s private, Methodist also has its own 18-holer. NC State also has a 6-hole par-3 course (again private).
If you want more, we mapped every college owned course (and team practice facility) in the country in one tidy spot. It’s got more than 400 pins on it, so it’s also a great time drain if you’re bored and want to go down a golf rabbit hole! It won’t let us post a link - so you’ll have to find it on our website which isn’t too hard to do.
Awesome. Thank you!
Anybody want to play Wilmington Muni next Monday afternoon? We’re in town for my son’s Ultimate tournament this weekend and can get in a round on Monday. But the course won’t let me make a tee time as a single.
You can just turn up as a single and they’ll just add you where you fit. I wouldn’t anticipate a long wait
Understood, but my wife is allowing me the opportunity to play Monday afternoon. Don’t want to show up at noon and not be able to finish (sunset is 6:20ish) because I don’t get on for 3 hours. The tee times are filling up as it is going to be the nicest day of the next week.
That’s fair. This is hardly binding, but I’d suspect you could get on with almost no wait. There appear to be a lot of tee times available Monday but I understand the reticence. Unfortunately, I’m in meetings until 430 Monday or I’d take you up on that offer
I certainly hope you’re right, because if I make that decision there aren’t any options left.
