Roll Call: North Carolina

You going to stay in Blacksburg that night so we can relive our youth?

the one in Roanoke is straight bo bo too, tried it 3x and it was trash experience all 3x

This is where I live. Do NOT speed from the Virginia/North Carolina line until you get on I-81. Four different police agencies compete to see who can write the most tickets.

Yes! For some reason the 4-5 mile stretch where 77 & 81 merge in Wytheville you can go as fast as you want, but on either side of that on 77 I donā€™t go more than 6-7 over the speed limit.

I worked at 3 different bars down there. I may carry a keg up some steps or throw someone in a headlock and drag them outside just for old times sake.

Bouncers gonna bounce.

let that be a warning to any NC cheating, we got muscle!

(as long as @Swing_hard_and_hope is not involved)

General questions for the North Carolina friends:

Group of buddies and I are dying to get to southern/mid pines. Our problem always is scheduling and we settle on a date like 2 months before we go, not ideal. Iā€™ve checked with both southern and mid, and to no surprise, they are completely booked. Given weā€™re all golf sickos, is there anyone who has a membership that might be able to get us on in April? Maybe join in on the fun, it will be 4 of us. Weā€™re shooting for the 21-24th. This is likely my last year of kidless freedom, so the internal clock is screaming at me to knock this off the bucket list.

Taking a buddies trip next week and playing Morehead City CC a few times. Have heard they dumped some money in to it recently, but any words of advice from the Outer Banks crowd?

Iā€™ve heard good things but have not played it myself. Keep an eye out for Curtis Strange, heā€™s a member there. If yā€™all need a change of scenery, the Beaufort Club is pretty fun as well.

Hey guys, new Nest member from NC here! Iā€™m one of the guys that caught the golf bug during COVID and found NLU about 1.5 years ago. As much as I now love golf, my friends donā€™t share the same love, so Iā€™m hoping to get out and meet new people. I live in Charlotte. What groups/chats should I join? Iā€™m sure this has been asked 100x, but Iā€™m not quite familiar with this message board format yet.

Welcome, weā€™ve got to get you involved with the Queen City Hive! @Hitchings21 or @Double_Bogey_Dave should be able to assist with that.

Hereā€™s a link to the CLC Whatsapp, which is the larger Carolinas chat. Weā€™ve got a Charlotte specific one as well. Youā€™ll find no shortage of folks organizing rounds together.

Thereā€™s an event at the end of March at Mimosa Hills which would be great to come out to and meet people! A lot of Charlotte folk should be out for that.

Thanks! I joined both of the WhatsApp groups. The link you posted for the Mimosa Madness say itā€™s private, so I assume I missed the sign-up period for that one, but appreciate the info. Is there more to being a part of the Queen City Hive other than joining the Charlotte WhatsApp group? Not sure how this all works, but looking to #GetInvolved

Welcome and congrats. You have found your people. Looking forward to teeing it up with you.

I think the thread is private based on how itā€™s categorized here in the refuge, once added to the QCH group you should get access. Hereā€™s the signup sheet though. Looks like weā€™re full at the moment but add your name as an alternate, thereā€™s inevitably going to be a drop out or three.

As far as the QCH is concerned, itā€™s probably not too late to get you added to our match play bracket. Our captain @Hitchings21 can confirm/organize that. Weā€™ve also got a separate QCH Whatsapp (thereā€™s a lot, I know). Thatā€™ll be used to determine four finalists that will face off in a regional match against First Flight and The High Cotton Club, with four coming out of that to go to the national event in the fall. Give this thread a read for an understanding about what the Roosts are.

From a golf stand point, keep tabs on the Events section for upcoming gatherings. Aside from that, the Refuge has all kinds of threads on various topics, dive on in! This place is equal parts weird and wonderful.
