Dang, can’t make it

Thanks for organizing here @tdaly, @UNCDeadHead i have added you to our roost so you should be able to see all of the threads in the Queen City Hive section. Let me know 3 things:

1 - There is an imperial thread with our hat/visor order. I think i have a couple of each left, let me know if you want one, they are $30 each
2 - match play - do you want to play? If so i need to figure out how to work you in
3 - mimosa event sign up, hit up the sheet if you want to play. all of the info on the event is in the thread.

I get the connection between Oregon and western NC. I went to the University of Oregon and am now living in Asheville. I mostly play Muni but it would be great to meet with other NLU members and play a round.

I have one spot open for Tobacco Road on Monday 2/21 if anyone is interested

Is this still open? And when is the tee time?

Great video about the Asheville Muni from our friends at Callaway.

Hi All, just popping in here to see if anyone would be interested in joining the NY crew for a 3 day event in Williamsburg, VA playing Kingsmill (36 Friday), Golden Horseshoe (36 Saturday) and Royal New Kent (18 Sunday morning). The event will be held from 3/31-4/3

Golf and 3 nights of accommodations with your own room will be ~$900.

We’re doing a Ryder Cup-ish format, we have a logo and ordering merch from H&B.

One person had to bail so looking for a brave soul to join a bunch of New Yorkers.

DM me if anyone is interested

Hey all

Sorry to get off topic. First post on the site.

I’m a Chicagoan considering a move to NC with the wife and young kiddo.

It’s a broad question, but what the hell…

What are some opinions on the best 50k-500k population area in the state?

Obviously, solid public golf is essential.

This is the only part of the question that isn’t an absolute crapshoot of opinions based on your needs and wants. The triad (Greensboro, High Point, Winston-Salem) has far and away the best public golf as a whole in the state.

I’ll probably get flamed on my opinions but that’s just what they are, opinions.

Asheville - if you’re an outdoor nut, like craft beer, can deal with tourists… but from my understanding cost of living is really rising (where isn’t it?). Can’t speak to the public golf scene.

Wilmington - Where I would live long term if I could (was there for 2 years). Solid downtown on the river, beaches nearby, and while not a great public golf scene do you really need anything besides the muni?

Triad - Where I grew up so for that reason I just won’t go back, but it’s a solid place to live. Great public golf scene, like 10-20 solid options under $50 on a weekend between Greensboro, HP, Winston, and surrounding areas.

Sandhills - Golf Heaven but I guess it can lack on other things to do.

Town outside of Raleigh - per your population listing, could just find a solid town in/around Raleigh, or even Durham. Good public options around the city. You then just have the option to go in the city when you want. And if you live on the southwest side you can be in the sandhills in an hour.

Town outside of Charlotte - somewhat a repeat of the first part of the above, but the public golf scene is pretty bleak. However, there are some pretty good affordable options for joining a club if it’s outside of the city.

I moved from Naperville/Lombard to Roanoke VA about 8 years ago ish. I would say the greensboro/high point area would be my a #1 area to move, I cover all of NC for work and thats where i would pick.

Replied to the wrong post at first… whoops

Biased as this was the “big city” for me growing up and I even moved back to the surrounding area after college. Wilmington is on the rise, lots of different industries making it home now. While public golf in Wilmington is saved solely by the muni you are only 45 min to an hour from the start of Grand Strand which one could say is the public golf capital of the east coast

Good breakdown, I agree with most everything.

I don’t think comes close to the population requirement unless you include Fayetteville in the equation… Which… Don’t. :grimacing:

Yeah the one thing we should all agree on is for him to not go to Fayettenam… then again depending on what part of Chicago he’s from he may be used to that kind of thing :joy:

I slipped it in purely for the golf, do not go to Fayetteville haha

No surprise that the Randeer found the horse track. Get out there for a couple laps and show em what you got

Greensboro is the only option in my opinion. I moved here from Rockford in 2014. Absolutely love the city and can’t beat the golf options.
