Roll Call: North Carolina

Turns out I live ~10 minutes from Reynolds Park. I’ll be checking that out possibly this weekend if the weather holds up. So happy to not be in Iowa right now where I wouldn’t think of golf until late April. (deepest condolences to my IA homies)

They aren’t in here, no need to share your condolences. We are a golf all year crew, we pretend like we have FL conditions even though it gets a little rough sometimes.

But weather is a mindset more than anything right?

God I hate that hole, I like the back a lot more than front anyways.

It’s been years since I’ve played out there (grew up in Winston). Have the conditions improved at all?

Anyone interested in playing Southern Pines on Tuesday of next week (12/14)? There are lots of tee times open.

I’d say either no, or if so barely.

Has anyone here gotten out to Maple Chase in Winston? Know someone who is a member out there, they are wanting me to join. Figured I would consult the experts.

Fluff let’s talk about another Perry Maxwell in our hometown…Gillespie Park. All I could think about watching this weeks episode of TS is Gillespie. 9 greens and 18 tee boxes

I will say condities are much shittier and stinkier at Gillespie than what looked to be a delightful walk at Wawashkamo

Just finished 8 days of golf. Pinehurst 2, Pinehurst 4, Mid Pines, Southern Pines, Tobacco Road, Ocean Course x 2, Harbour Town x 2.
Great courses and there are so many more I missed.

I was a member there for many years. Fine club at a reasonable price point. Excellent chef and nice bar. Great patio too. Lots of good guys and a lot of solid players. The golf course is not long if that matters to you but is in fine shape these days. Front is flat and back is hilly. Ellis Maples design with a couple of wild ass greens. Par threes are the hardest holes by far. Check it out. I think you will like it. I am no longer a member due to location issues- nothing to do with the club.

Appreciate the info, I’ll see if I can get shown around a bit there, maybe catch a round with said buddy. I’m a bogey golfer on most days, so I’m not super caught up on my “home” course being long/difficult. Much more about the vibes and people for me.

Grew up very much not around the country club life, only really ever played shaggy public courses. I’m a little apprehensive about fitting in. If that makes any sense. Maybe I’m rambling…

It is not a stuffy place at all. Bunch of normal people. You won’t have any issues there. The course is not long but it can offer a test due to the greens. You can get yourself in some spots of bother but then you can shoot a nice score too. Check it out. They do a very fine job there.

Maple Chase is a fun round and a nice post round hang. I am not a member but have played it as a guest. If I was looking for a club I would strongly consider Maple Chase.

Whats the best daily fee in the Charlotte area? in arounds 1 hour drive or so ?

What an epic lineup!! I know if was a blast!

Depends on what you are looking for.

Mooresville, Fort Mill and Monroe all have front 9s by Donald Ross and back 9s that were added many years later.

If you want something more modern, I would say Rocky River or Springfield are tops in that category.

There are plenty of other courses built in 90s and 2000s that run through neighborhoods. Which side of town are you on?

I’m in the Myers park area

Pretty good one right there in your hood to sneak on to

Sounds promising.
