Roll Call: North Carolina

oh nah, I’m not great. As a person, record label or crew. Hope to have @Fore20 with me as well.

Awesome, welcome. A ton of Raleigh golfers in here! Also a whats app chat you should tread lightly on diving in on.

Hello Carolinians,

I’ll be road-tripping through your fine state on Thursday 3/4, looking to play either 1. A non-absurdly priced Pinehurst course, or 2. Mid Pines. If my back will allow it, I might be up for second round (Cradle?). Tobacco Road is also a consideration, but coming from the desolate tundra of Chiberia, I haven’t swung a club in several months and am not looking to get my dick kicked in completely.

If anyone would like to join, I’d love to meet up

I’ll be getting into town on wednesday and leaving friday, so timing is very flexible. Also open to any restaurant/hotel recommendations.

About a month ago we kicked off a campaign to gather up some funds. This was mostly done through back channel emailing / texting / DMs, so if you wanted to be involved but did not get the chance I apologize.

We had some NC refugees who needed some special recognition and thanks, so that’s what we did. @BrooklynAJ and @CrucialTaunt have been very generous and helpful with letting us get many tee times that would not be attained otherwise.

If you have not had the pleasure of meeting either of them, you are missing out. Seriously two of the nicest guys you can ever meet. They are the types who would never expect anything in return for their generosity, but that’s not how we roll! In addition we knew that this generosity is only possible because of their wives allowing them to golf nearly every weekend (and plenty of weekdays).

Well both deliveries have officially been made so wanted to get a post up. Thank you to Mike and Andy, but also thank you to those who helped contribute. It really was special to see the $$$$ pour in. I won’t disclose the exact amount because then others in here might try to jump in on the trip, but we were able to get them each a size able gift card to Primland Golf Resort. Hopefully they can treat those very special women for a weekend.

This is also an invitation to pile on addition nice things about these two gentlemen, because they deserve it!

It was definitely unnecessary, but truly very kind. Mrs. BrooklynAJ now realizes you are all fine people, not just a bunch of degenerate internet golf crazies. A little from Column A, a little from Column B, I guess.

In any event, thank you all for the kindness, and here’s to many more great golfing days ahead. The golf and this crew of sickos has been a major silver lining in a difficult time.

I can only echo what @BrooklynAJ said above. Truly unnecessary as it was my absolute pleasure to play with as many guis from this group as possible. Mrs. CrucialTaunt always asks me if I’m golfing with “internet strangers” again and at this point I can honestly say “Nope, I’m playing with my friends from the Refuge”. If anyone ever tells you that there aren’t good people out there, you should point them squarely at this group. I’ve met more “random strangers” this year than I ever thought I would and, to a person, they have all been outstanding (even after watching me hack up any number of courses). Thank you all very much and please don’t ever worry about doing something like this again. The more people I can get out to Pine Needles, Southern Pines, and especially Mid Pines, the better as far as I’m concerned.

I will be hiding in your trunk to join you back to my motherland from the slowly warming Chiberia.

It’s a hatchback, so there’s plenty of room back there!

Would anyone near Southern Pines want to play Friday morning before I head North?

Gonna be in the Pinehurst/SP area with a group of 8 in mid March. Tobacco Road, Dormie, Mid Pines, Southern Pines, and the Cradle make up the current itinerary.

But with the reno going on a Southern Pines, I was wondering if substituting Longleaf in its place was the better play? If anybody who’s been out to SP recently has an opinion it’d be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi all, first time posting in this thread. Born and raised in SC currently living in Charlotte, have been here about 1.5 years and have been exploring the public golf scene around the city, always looking for a game so hopefully ill get the chance to meet some of yall one day. Posting now b/c looking for some course recommendations for Wilmington NC area, some buddies and I are taking a trip in April and looking to get a few (approx 3) rounds in, and I dont know much about the golf in that area (or Wilmington in general). A quick search thru this thread seems like the Muni is a must play but any other course advice/recommendations are appreciated.

Welcome aboard! Wilmington Muni is a must for sure. There’s a pretty active Charlotte WhatsApp chat I believe and there’s at least one or 2 Refugees in Wilmington that can point you in the right direction for your trip.

Lived in Wilmington before moving to Charlotte. Definitely play the muni. For other rounds I would recommend Beau Rivage, Cape Fear National at Brunswick Forest, Magnolia Greens (27 holes), and Compass Pointe. If you’re willing to make a trip out of Wilmington an hour or so (depending where you’re staying), you could venture down to Carolina National, Rivers Edge, Farmstead, or Thistle. I’m partial to the Muni and Cape Fear National, but others may say differently.

Also if someone can link to the Charlotte specific WhatsApp chat that’d be great. I’m in the NC one but not that one.

Wilmington Muni and then whatever else. Or the Muni again.

Check out @CongratsOnTheSix post from a few days back on this. We played the other day and I agree with all his comments. They were charging $45 which I think is worth it especially if you plan to be back when the reno is complete or are a big fan of Mid Pines. That said there is A LOT of working going on and a lot of GUR, so if not everyone is cool with that Longleaf is a fine option.

Appreciate it. I also had a question about the practice holes at Pine Needles - If after our round at Mid Pines there are still a few bets hanging in the balance, is it possible to head over to PN and play those 4 practice holes? Or is that scummy? Probably scummy but wanted to ask.

Welcome! I live in Wilmington. The Muni is a must!

Other options would be Castle Bay (north of town), Beau Rivage (not my favorite), Cape Fear National (one of my favorites but pricey), Magnolia Green, Compass Pointe.

45 min to an hour south you have good options also in Carolina National, Thistle and anything else North Myrtle @Double_Bogey_Dave recommends. He is the resident MB travel agent.

If you are looking for other non golf things to do in Wilmy hit me up.

I second these recomendations and will add Tidewater, Glen Dornoch, the Pearl, Sandpiper Bay, Crow Creek, Oyster Bay, Eagle Nest, and Sea Trail Jones to the list for north Myrtle courses.

I’d also recommend the Little River waterfront as a great place to grab a bite post round of down that way.

Also, Bald Head Island might be worth checking out.

I think that you’d be just fine doing that. There’s almost never anyone out there and I’m sure they’d be cool with it if you played MP that day anyway.
