This is stupidly late, but have a threesome for 9:06 at Southern Pines tomorrow and one guy bailed. I’m guessing there’ll be a frost delay. It’s one of the Black Friday vouchers so it’ll only set you back $33.

groupgolfer hasn’t had shit for good deals around the triad and up this way in a while either, hell I emailed them about being a rep in VA and never heard back, yet not a single deal on there. smdh.

Update: exciting stuff going on at Southern Pines. Definitely going for Mid Pines vibes there and it’s looking really good. Need to get back there after the upgrade.

Do you know when it will be done? Quick search on their website says they are wrapping up phase one and will start phase two in May. I’m gonna be in the area the first week in March, not sure what price or conditties to expect.

I don’t. They seemed happy to talk about it and tell you what they know (at least that was my experience when I called for the time). It’s a fun course either way.

It’s a little weird playing your way around excavators and there’s an unusual amount of GUR. I was quite proud to play the same ball for all 36 despite nearly putting in piles of cut branches and loose soil.

I’d played there a handful of times before, so it was fun for me to think about before vs. during vs. what will be. The one sorta goofy thing was hole 11 was closed and they turned 15 (par 5) into a shortish par 4 into a temporary green* plus a par three to the regular green.

  • We were excited about my friend holing out for eagle and I made a long put through slightly-shorter-than-fairway cut for birdie but our pride was tempered when we got up there and realized the temporary green was cut with a 10" hole.

Conditions were generally good. I’m in Durham and with all the rain we’ve had on this poor-draining clay soil, I’m excited anytime there’s the least bit of firmness underfoot. Greens we in pretty good shape too.

My understanding is that is going to stay that way for the duration so they can close one hole at a time to do work and still have 18 playable holes.

Thanks for your update. Really eager to get down there for the “during” phase of the project.

Coming down Southern Pines/Pinehurst to play Mid Pines, TR and looking for one or two more not at Pinehurst but one of the better values in the area. Longleaf? Legacy ? Anything in great shape halfway through March? Thanks y’all.

Power ranking budget courses in Pinehurst:

  1. Longleaf
  2. Longleaf again
  3. Longleaf a third time
  4. Surprise it’s Longleaf again
  5. Hyland

As requested:

Played SP yesterday on a beautiful day with @golfijs and our better halves. There is a significant amount of work going on, tree brush off the sides, many bunkers unplayable/GUR, excavators going, and workers everywhere. That said - it still is worth playing, just under the expectation that you’ll be working around all this. It’s remarkable to see the work in progress, and you get giddy at what the potential will be.

The starter did a crap job explaining what was happening with the hole closures. 12 was fully closed, and 15 was still the short par 4, par 3. However, we (and other groups) just played it as the original par 5, then played 1 again at the end as an 18th hole. It was the end of the day so that was feasible and worked out fine.

Here are some pics. The removed trees is going to make for some awesome views and hole corridors.

Wow, you can already see the Mid Pines vibes. 6 just went from a pretty meh hole to a beast. That’s going to be tough. Thanks for sharing.

Hi all, I’m fairly new to the Nest and happy to be apart of it. I’m in the Raleigh area and hope to be able to participate in some future events as well as get a chance to play with some other members. Really enjoy all of the discussions. Cheers!
