Would love to get in on the Charlotte-area WhatsApp. Who can make that happen?
Iāve been training for this my whole life.
Pine Needles. No question. One of my favorite tracks ever.
Same
Hello North Carolinians. I have some non-golf related questions.
My girlfriend and I are looking to move to North Carolina. The move wouldnāt happen until May of 2022, but some things would have to be planned by the fall of 2021.
I will (hopefully) be working remotely and my girlfriend will (hopefully) be doing pharmacy rotations.
If you could move anywhere in NC, where would you go? Would you recommend the same for a 25-year-old? Any places/cities we should definitely not go to? We have our eye on the Raleigh Durham area but there are still so many options and any specific recommendations would be really helpful.
Raleigh and Durham are great places to be, I think itās the best spot to be outside of the Pinehurst area, especially if you are young. Durham is a bit more affordable (though quickly becoming less so), but both are good for jobs, restaurants, etc.
Also, you can be in Pinehurst in an hour which is a plus.
Good timing on this question. My fiancĆ© and I moved from Manhattan to Wilmington about a year and a half ago. While we really enjoy Wilmington, we are moving to Raleigh sometime in winter/spring. We absolutely fell in love with Raleigh. So weāve been in a similar spot as you as far as looking at various places in NC. Raleigh is really cool, great restaurants and bars and really vibrant. Not too far from the beach and not too far from the mountains.
As a side note, Iāll be hitting this thread for Raleigh course recommendations and really looking forward to attending some meetups and getting to play with some of yāall.
We live in Durham and love it. Members at Croasdaile and love that too. Also, Iām a pharmacist - seems like thereās a lot of overlap here. Let me know if there are any other questions I can answer.
Drive south on US 1 to Tobacco Road, Quail Ridge,Hyland, Mid Pines, Pine Needles, Southern Pines, Pinehurst, etc.
Seriously, Iām kind of mad at myself for not taking advantage of this as frequently as I could the last few years.
The consensus Raleigh courses that arenāt private are Pine Hollow and Lonnie Poole.
Thanks. I figure Iāll be riding out to Pinehurst quite a bit but will certainly be looking for some options locally as well. But canāt lie, the proximity to Pinehurst area was a massive selling point.
We moved to Raleigh about 3 years ago from DC as 25 year olds and it has been fantastic. Would be glad to help by answering questions, providing advice, etc.
We had a the choice between Charlotte and Raleigh because my wife had job offers in both places, I think we would have been happy either way, but for sure have a different vibe and think we made the right choice for us.
What do you both do for work?
I moved to Charlotte at 27 and donāt regret the decision at all. The city is changing and growing rapidly, even in the five years Iāve been here. There is an emerging arts and culture scene, a great beer scene and itās right in the middle of the state, so a few hours drive from everything. A lot of banking professionals in the downtown (uptown) and surrounding areas.
Asheville may be another consideration depending on your lifestyle. Another great beer scene. Very outdoorsy. Very artsy.
Iād recommend coming down a few times if you can and checking out various parts of the state. Plenty of us would be willing to meet up, play golf, drink and talk.
As someone who lives in Charlotte, let me just say I would recommend anywhere but Charlotte.
Greensboro without a doubt. Great golf in and around the city. Good highway system through and around the city. Greensboro is growing rapidly and they are preparing for it. I have not lived in Raleigh or Charlotte but my impression of those cities is that they grew faster than their infrastructure could accommodate and now traffic is a nightmare. I think Greensboro is getting out ahead of it.
As someone who used to live in Charlotte, itās a fun town to visit, but the traffic and the sprawl make it less desirable - for me, at least - when it comes to the day to day stuff. @Waldorf98 sounds like heās in a different stage of life than I am so he might care more about what to do after work where Iām more concerned with spending less time in my car getting to and from work, the grocery store, kidsā activities etc.
My whole life has been in the Charlotte area and Durham/Chapel Hill. It would take a lot to get me out of the Triangle.
Coming from Boston proper, traffic down here in nothing. I do agree that Charlotte is growing faster than itās infrastructure can keep up. City leaders are trying to make the next leap.
Charlotteās traffic problems go back much further than the recent boom. Traffic sucked there in the 80s.
Raleigh traffic isnāt bad at all compared to Charlotte. Durham traffic is a breeze.
You want to see bad traffic go to DC, Phoenix, Vegas, Boston, LA.
@stevenst I believe @Hitchings21 is the gui
Joined up at Palisades back in August, itās been a blast so far and super reasonable, especially if youāre under 31 (no initiation). Really fun tournaments, my wife and I had a blast at a one club challenge the day before Thanksgiving
