Roll Call: North Carolina

Play Mid Pines. I think that CGA offer includes a free same day replay. Depending on your time, you can go across the street to Pine Needles for a few holes for free.

I’d take Mid Pines as the most fun to play out of those 3. As a high handicapper, you can get around there without losing a ton of balls but the greens and surrounds are still really tough. Southern Pines is similar in that respect but if you’ve got a deal, better to use it on MP or PN than SP.

We’ve gotta get you out to MP. Let’s make it happen!

Played Palisades in Charlotte recently.

  • Course is interesting, lots of fun holes. Conditions were good enough.
  • Pro was all-time- very nice staff across the board.
  • Paired with a member who was great, played behind members who were batshit crazy.
  • what a disaster of a neighborhood - tract homes everywhere
  • Spent as much with the beverage cart as I did for my round of golf, so can’t complain about the rates.

This is not a statement that you just leave laying there. Details, please.

Calling Pine Needles a ā€œtypical tournament courseā€ is a little misleading. Mid Pines has the sandhills aesthetic turned up to 11; Pine Needles would be that example if it didn’t have Mid Pines across the street.

Lawler Golf 2020, The Final Round

Hello Friends,

For those who know, know me I am a fan of a story; a natural beginning, a middle, and a fitting end. With that in mind, l have decided to try and give my 2020 golf story the proper ending. If you have followed along this year you know that can only mean one thing, we must go back where to all started. Go back to where we have seen the highest of highs. Go back to where the love has deepened with every play.

I assume I need to say no more, I played Tobacco Road on January 1st of 2020 and I would like to close out the year on December 31st doing the same. But now, I would love to have many of the great people I have golfed with over the year join me at The Road. With that being said, you are cordially invited to join me on the closing of this chapter.

I am working with the great folks at TR to block off a number of tee times and figure out the pricing, but please fill out this google sheet if you are interested so I can give them some more accurate numbers.

Cheers,

Thomas

TL;DR: Sign up here if you want to play Tobacco Road on 12/31 - Sign up link

Asheville folk - looking for some recommendations. Headed up that way, Marshall to be exact, to celebrate my anniversary this weekend. Found a sweet tiny home overlooking the river, perfect for wife, dog, and I. Anyway, hoping to get to Asheville around noon on Friday to walk the dog around a bit, grab a bite to eat & pick up a couple growlers from Wicked Weed.
Any lunch/food spots you would recommend for vegan/plant-based people? White Duck Taco is always a good option, but hoping to try somewhere new. Cheers!

Chai Pani is awesome, and as an Indian place I’m sure they’d have a bunch of vegan stuff available.

You know that’s right up my alley

Will second Chai Pani. It is great. Not sure how much vegan stuff they have but CĆŗrate is also awesome. It’s tapas so I’m sure some combo of them is vegan.

You ever get out Cedarbrook?

Y’all will have a good time! Pretty enjoyable overall and look forward to playing it again.

@OldDonnie welcome! kind of cheating because not officially a Ross but the renovated (few years ago) Mooresville Golf Course claims their front 9 was originally drawn up by him. That’s kind of passable on the front 9, the back 9 is also good but it’s almost like two different courses. All told a very good value in the area and their practice area is also great pre or post round.

I was very impressed with the Mooresville muni. I would agree that the front is better but really no bad holes to be found. Incredible value too.

Many times. I live about 25 mins away. Known the pro forever. I find the back nine to be enjoyable with a couple of excellent holes- 12, 13, 14 and 17 my favs. Couple of greens and one hole on the front are just not good. Number 5 one of the worst holes ever. However one time I made three there in a tournament and did not have the honor as a playing partner made 2! I usually make 5 or 6 there. It is a good value with a solid beer selection too.

Nice! I grew up in Wilkesboro playing at Oakwoods!

Hey everyone - long-time follower (lurker), first time poster. From Boston, but just convinced the wife to get away from the Northeast for part of the winter. Will be staying in Southern Pines area for 5 weeks from end of January thru February. I’m planning to get in as much golf as possible but will probably be limited to mostly weekends and 1 week of vacation due to work. Would be great to find some people to play with.
