Roll Call: Nashville (Spring Match Play Post 1319)

Well 12 Stones is closed again to COVID…So is Country Hills…

The Legacy is still open it looks like…

Hermitage also is still taking tee times for this weekend

Anyone want to try to get out this weekend? Looks like it will be nice.

Gunna be at two rivers with a buddy at 4pm today then Harpeth Hills tomorrow at 8am. Not sure how many we have on Saturday but its jsut two of us this afternoon. Ill be in a grey t shirt and black shorts and hat with what basically is a blonde mullet at this point…

My buddy said the same thing about Hermitage…Makes me wonder if Gaylord is open too… Cant see why some courses are closing but some remain open. Unless they are just waiting for the Gov to come in and tell them to shut it down specifically.

Played 9 the past two days at Percy Warner. Much more enjoyable when there isn’t a guy dropping practice balls on the 2nd hole…

I played Hermitage on Saturday and it was busy but the course was in excellent shape. They have raised cups out there which I liked quite a bit even thought (or especially because) it makes putting soooo much easier. I never felt like there was even a chance of missing from 8 feet and in.

I’m new to the Refuge. Live in Crieve Hall area, glad to see there’s a good NLU group around.

I’m thinking about heading out for a quick 9 tomorrow morning but I’ve been playing Harpeth Hills the last couple of weeks and it’s gotten out of hand. Long lines to get on, people holding spots for a second group, that sort of thing. Anyone notice the same thing happening at other munis? Would love to get out and play in the morning but I don’t want to wait for an hour to play Percy Warner lol.

Can’t speak for the more traditional, heavily used munis like Ted and Harpeth but I’ve been pleasantly surprised at the first tee at Percy, especially in the evenings. Even with 4-5 groups ahead of us, we’ve gotten off in 20 min or less every time. Obviously some back log once you’re out there but the first hole being a short par 3 seems to get groups of the 1st hole in pretty short order.

Went off the 10th hole at Two Rivers yesterday afternoon at around 3:30. There were 12-16 people stacked up on the 1st so we just hopped on the back. Waited on almost every shot but managed to barely finish our round before dark. The weather yesterday was perfect so I guess I can’t complain too much.

Looks like the answer to playing munis right now is to play weekday afternoons instead of weekends.

Yeah, the nice weather this week has the munis pretty stacked up. I went to McCabe late in the evening (6:15ish) and there were still groups waiting to go off. I was about to go off on the South course until I saw the EIGHTSOME on the first green. So I chose the Middle course instead, haha.

Hell even the private tee sheets are stacked around town. Members are playing the publics because the tee sheets get crushed as soon as it opens for the week with the limited spots for social distancing

Anyone play Hermitage this spring? Pins in?

Pins are down as of last week. Presidents is purrreee.

Anyone have any news on when the metro courses will open back up?

Also…Any news on Shelby Bottoms getting cleaned up?

Played Greystone for the 1st time this weekend and it is the best public course within 45 minutes of Nashville and it’s not even close for me. Can’t believe I waited so long but the drive to Dickson was prohibitive most weekends. Good conditioning, very interesting hole to hole, fun to play and you can score well. Good shots get funneled to the hole and fairway and great shots are very well rewarded. Most of the time if you get into trouble it was due to a bad shot or poor club selection. I like Hermitage and the attitude out there but Greystone was $35 for 18 on a Saturday (via GolfNow) and I was just blown away at how much fun it was and CHEAP. I would be down to have a meetup out there for anyone else that likes it or hasn’t played it. I would put Greystone above most privates I have played in Nashville as well. Just…yeah…it was excellent.

That’s high praise. It’s been on my radar to check out but just haven’t gotten the chance to get out there yet. I’d be down for a meetup for sure.

Played 36 yesterday at President’s. Course wasn’t too busy and you couldn’t ask for better weather.

Yeah, I imagine the weather had a lot to do with my enjoyment of the course as well. Just a perfect day after we shook off the cold (when I teed off it was 37 degrees). I have played Hermitage probably 8 times this year so I like the courses out there but Greystone has much more dramatic elevation changes and design features. There are a lot of holes at Hermitage that run together for me (again I really like Hermitage but in comparison it just lacks the “wow” factor that Greystone has). Zac Radford (I am not a huge fan but I was looking for videos of Greystone before I booked it) has videos of playing the course on youtube and I think if you watch them you would hard pressed not to want to play out there. The par 3s are a little underwhelming but Holes 1, 5, 9, 10, 17, and 18 are just excellent.

I love Greystone to death! we have our conference championship out there and I have even had a few good rounds out there. I like every hole on that golf course except for #1. Besides that hole it is a really good course.
