Roll Call: Nashville (Spring Match Play Post 1319)

saw this early Sunday and would have been in if I didn’t have plans. Hope you were able to get the round in with the crazy weather yesterday.

How is Country Hills? I have never been out there.

We were on the line of the storms the whole time while they just poured south of us. Country Hills is a fun course. It’s usually never too packed which is super nice. I love their par 3’s out there because they are all downhill. Fairways can be tight for some. I hit a lot of 2 irons out there off the tee out there since its only like 6,400 yards from the tips. Greens are always in pretty good shape out there. Staff, and just the vibe in general, is super laid back and friendly.

Um, yep, checks out.

@Boomersooner523 sounds like a nice place I enjoy laid back vibes. That fairway is not for a bomber that is for sure. I can see why you hit a lot of irons off the tee.

Yeah that hole is where the strong 3 wood comes in super handy at 12.5 degrees lol. Usually when I play Country Hills, I will crank down the 3 wood from a 14.5 to a 12.5 and use it off the tee with the 2iron also. I will hit driver on about 4 holes out there depending on how I am feeling or wind conditions…

Totally random question here, I’ve been thinking about trying to pick up a caddying gig at one of the local private clubs on the side. Not to sound too douchey but I have a great job already, I’m a mechanical engineer on the sales side and I travel a ton. I legitimately just want to do it because I enjoy golf, the outdoors, and meeting new people / networking that much. (Also possibly getting free golf here and there sounds nice) I worked at a private club through High school and college so I understand that most of these jobs go to members kids and so on. Anyone have any idea what course around here would be worth looking into? Or if any clubs even have caddy’s here?

Belle Meade, Golf Club of Tennessee and Richland Country Club for sure have caddies. Found a posting for a job for Richland (not sure how stale this) and the description made me chuckle:

Headed to Sweetens this weekend! First time going on the weekend since they have done the pass thing…Anyone here been yet with the all day weekend pass? Got the pass for Saturday and playing the Sewanee course Sunday.

I have not. The time I went was a random Thursday afternoon. From what it sounds like the course should be pretty busy. I think they send out the largest group first and work their way down from there. Bring lots of drinks!

@Boomersooner523
I went July 4th weekend and we played 36. Course is in great shape. We got there around 8am and 2 foursomes went off before us. If you have a bigger group they usually let them go 1st. They will also tell you this, but the course is yours for the day. You can go eat lunch and come back, etc. Have fun.

Played Sweetens before but not with the all day. I’m sure it will be awesome.

I would be curious for your thoughts on Sewanee. I have never been but it looks awesome.

Although my lawn would love it, hope the rain stays away from Sweetens. Forecasts are making it look like this could be the wettest week in Middle TN in months.

shhhhh. i choose to ignore it and/or assume the meteorologists don’t know what they’re talking about, per the usual

Played the course at Sewanee a few times. Nothing short of spectacular. I would drive down from Nashville to just play that course. To have Sweetens near-by is a spectacular bonus…If you haven’t played before I would highly suggest it. It was overhauled by Gil Hanse in 2013 which is also super cool if you are into golf architects at all.

I think it is very cool because it is a 9 hole’r as well but instead of a massive green complex it, running two pin locations for the 18 holes…The Sewanee course will offer you two sets of tee boxes. It’s a very very well maintained course and has much better views than Sweetens.

Good info here…Thinking about packing the cooler with some good burger meat and doing a little grill out near the heckledeck and having a few BIBCO beers in the shade…

Easily worth the hour and 20 min trip from Nashville (especially during the summer when there can be a 5-10 degree temp difference). Get a morning tee time, drive down and play for a few hours, grab a late lunch and you’re back in Nashville before dinner.

Done the all day twice this year and have two more scheduled. Have a big group going down Saturday and Sunday August 22-23. If I have any advice, take a bunch of baby powder, a change of clothes, and WAYYYYY more water than you think you need. It gets super super hot and humid in the valley. Get as much golf played before noon, don’t hesitate to take a couple hour break mid day to make sure you get to play as much as possible around golden hour as well. Also if you’re taking a cart the whole day, try to walk at least one loop. It really gives you a different appreciation for the place. Don’t hesitate to invite others into your group and meet people. Everyone there is so damn friendly!

I would be game for walking the first nine. I always play better when walking at a course that has no range and I think it makes you warm up and “loosen” up on the walk between shots…I sign up for a pass with a cart so I guess we will see if that means anything. I am assuming they probably dont run out of carts on the weekend since they know how many people will be there…right?

I haven’t done the all day pass with a cart so I don’t know. But sweetens has always had a limited number of carts. Used to be only 22.

Nolensville here. Long-time NLU fan, first time poster in the Refuge. Happy to meet up and play with anyone.
