Roll Call: Nashville (Spring Match Play Post 1319)

So I go to Nashville at least twice a year. It’s an easy 3.5 hour drive from Atlanta. And I have go to restaurants I always eat at when I am here… Five Points Pizza, Mas Tacos, and Mitchells Deli… But do you guys have any local favorites you can recommend for my visit this weekend?

I visited for the first time this past week.

We ate at a place called Puckett’s Grocery. Local beers, live music, some really really great food.

Hattie B’s was of course legit. I need hot chicken in my life. Chick-fil-a is basically McDonald’s on the Hattie B’s scale.

And then someone recommended to us the Loveless Cafe. I’m still dreaming about it. FWIW, the 4-side order is the way to go. and I added two more. lol. Mashed potatoes, hash brown casserole, green beans, cream corn, fried green tomatoes, and fried okra. and a biscuit.

Butchertown hall is my go to because it’s right beside my apartment but it’s also incredible. Get their queso. Midtown tavern has a great wagyu burger that’s extremely good but not too expensive. If you want the best meal of your life and are willing to pay for it, Kayne prime is out of this world. If there is a certain type of food you’re looking for I can definitely send you the right way

I would recommend
-The Southern (Downtown)
-Arnold’s (meat and 3)
-Edley’s (BBQ)
-Loveless Cafe (southern food)
-Hattie B’s is good but can get very busy at times because of all the visitors, so you may have to wait.
-Prince’s and Big Shakes are other good hot chicken options

Kayne Prime is on my list per a recommendation from a friend but we couldn’t squeeze it in. So…squeeze it in. Heard nothing but great things.

They have online ordering so that’s the route I would absolutely recommend for everyone. Our line was short but I’ll always order online now.

Agree with Kayne Prime and Butchertown Hall. 2 of my 3 favorites in the city. The 3rd is Sperry’s but I wouldn’t recommend it to an out of town guest. Nothing flashy just great food every single time.

Seconding Kayne Prime, Edleys, Butchertown Hall.

Desano Pizza is great. Virago, a sushi restaurant, might be my favorite restaurant in Nashville.

All of those places are good. Best take out mexican in East Nashville (where I live is called El Fuego.

Go to Joyland- Best burger in Nashville. (Michelin 2 star chef who loves cooking burgers and snack foods)

Mitchell’s has the best chicken salad I have ever had…

Pelican and pig- more for dinner and kind of fancy but a great bone in short rib that is a must have.

Margot’s - eat here for a date night or something…Probably one of my favorite places to eat in Nashville truthfully.

Bolton’s has by far the hottest hot chicken in Nashville and its not even close…

Good recs from everyone so far. I’ll also throw in Martin’s for BBQ.

I played the Little Course in Franklin this weekend for the first time in a few years. Fun little 9-hole, par-3 course to work on your wedges. It’s a big jr. golf place so you sometimes get the added bonus of seeing a dad that clearly views himself as the next Earl Woods.

I’ve got to say, I think Rosepepper is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Nashville.

Not going to opine on my hot chicken tastes except to say that they’re all good and I might be basic.

Pharmacy has the best burger, and probably at least two other burgers in the top-10.

Best drunk food is the sandwiches at Bellagio Pizza & Subs in West End.

+1 on this. I tried Joyland for the first time the other day and was kinda let down, given all the hype. It was good, but nothing special. Granted, it was takeout, which tends to be not quite as good as in the restaurant. The best non-fancy, classic burger in Nashville might be Gabby’s, but they have limited hours.

You HAVE to go to El Fuego. They just opened up their new spot right on Galatin right across the street from the Sonic in Inglewood. We are hitting it up tonight.

Hard to beat 3.99 16oz house-made margaritas on the rocks at El Fuego…and they are actually good at that price.

Gabby’s is the best burger…however their hours are extremely restricted at this time due to COVID.

FYI if anyone is looking for a ClicGear or Rovic push cart Edwin Watts off Briley Pkwy has like 7 that just delivered yesterday…I know they are a hot commodity right now…

Played Greystone yesterday. Course was in good shape overall but the greens were a disaster. Just a heads up if anyone is thinking of playing there in the near future.

Hey all,

Planning a trip to Nashville with some friends this October. Coming from North Carolina, so stopping at Sweeten’s Cove on the way home. But while in Nashville we’re looking to play 1-2 rounds of cheap golf. Gaylord Springs and Hemritage are probably a little more than we want to spend.

Any recommendations other than those two? Two Rivers, Harpeth Hills and Nashville National Golf Links are some I found online that look a ridiculously cheap price. Are they in bad condition or tremendous value?

Thanks in advance!
