Roll Call: Morris/Essex County NJ

Byrne is closed for the season, yes.

Earliest time I see open for anything other than a single at Hendrick’s is 1pm.

Tons of interesting holes, the green complexes there aren’t revolutionary, just really strong

@brutalbaum thanks for the invite, but looks like my weekend is fully of swim lessons, soccer classes, birthday parties, and play dates (kids, not mine!). Hopefully another time.

Have 11am at rock spring sunday if you are interested!

Don’t think I can manage Sunday, but thanks. Definitely this season.

Thanks for reaching out @brutalbaum - I’m a no go this weekend, already have some plans. Next time!

All -

hope the snow is making everyone thing about better weather to get out and play golf! Given the NIT announcement today, anyone up for locking in a date in early/mid April and coming together for a meetup (maybe at Rock Spring). Try and aim for 20 or so people and see what we can get going…?

I play Rock Spring all the time. I would love that. But if we wanted to get real consideration for an NIT Regional, we would need to include Philly area/Eastern PA, and the Delaware/Maryland area. I was thinking about Atlantic City CC. Fairly central to the area left out from the current Regionals, and a Doak redesign, and great track.

Just taking a temperature here. Probably gonna start a thread for it soon.

Would love Atlantic City cc…

I’m down for either. Absolutely would support an event.

wasn’t necessarily going for a NIT event, just inspired to get something out there, but for sure open to all options! Thanks.

Yeah after talking to some more people in here i realized i was putting too much stock into the whole NIT thing. If we just play some golf and get a bunch of us together, maybe they take notice for next year.

I grew up in Morris County. I now live outside Philly but am back up to Morris County all the time. Would be interested in both Rock Spring or ACCC outings.

Grew up in Morris County and now live in Westfield. Would welcome the chance to cross paths with folks at Rock Spring.

This should probably go in the best shot you ever hit thread but I figured it would be more appreciated here. #11 at Francis Byrne. I push a 5 wood off the tee about 3 feet the right and under the branches of that one larger tree right of the fairway. From there, I proceed to hit a 6 iron off my back foot under the branches in front of me, rolls to 4 inches for a tap in birdie.

Somehow I’m just discovering this thread but better late than never! I am in Chatham and would love to get together with people this season. Love the Rock Spring get together idea as I’ve never seen it. ACCC is great also, played it once and enjoyed it.

Some great info on Rock Spring in the Nov-Dec issue of Met Golfer (see p.14):

https://editions.mydigitalpublication.com/publication/?i=611142&p=&pn=#{"page":16,"publication_id":"61208","issue_id":"635271"}

14,000 rounds played through October; 5,000 in August alone, and on target for 20k for the year.

Pretty strong for, as the article points out, an opening date of May 10 and a super soggy early summer.

It’s starting to make sense why it looked the way it did when i was there last towards the end of September. Now that the town owns it, I’m hoping they preserve their investment and keep up with the maintenance on it. 20k rounds spells disaster if you’re crew isn’t on top of things.

Totally. It’s absolutely gonna be a fine line between maximizing revenue generation and keeping maintenance up to a high standard. They have Kemper on contract through 2020, so hopefully they can manage it. It will also be interesting to see if any of the “novelty” of the course being newly public wears off next season, or if they continue to host high #'s.

Bet it stays high numbers. So close to NYC, you have limited options and Rock Spring is superior to the Long Island courses available.
