Fair. Yeah, I think two or three seasons ago all the courses up there got hit especially hard. Having been fortunate enough to play the Quarry twice, I think as far as public golf in Minnesota goes, nothing compares. Those first two holes alone really separate the place.
Totally agree. 2 might be my favorite hole anywhere.
Yeah, I love StoneRidge, but let’s not be silly here. Quarry is on a different level.
The Quarry holds its own with pretty much any public golf course in the country besides the one winter kill year they had. What makes that course so great is it’s visually intimidating off the tee but when you get to the green you look back and see all the linksy elements that actually could help you. It beats plenty of people up but I think once you play it a few times it just gets better.
As someone who has some strong metro bias, I’m bitter that Keller isn’t still in here
Also, I need to get back to Deacons hah
Yep. 100% need to get up there again this summer.
A Northland and Giants Ridge combo sounds like a pretty good fall weekend idea.
I did a 36 hole day in the fall up there last year. Just gorgeous.
Fall golf is the best period, good weather and the best conditions of the year. The main drawback is less daylight.
I give the nod to the Quarry just based on the fact StoneRidge kicks my teeth in every time I play there.
I think I just have recency bias on stoneridge. I played Quarry a long time ago and was a muuuuuch worse golfer. I liked it but didnt love it. I love stoneridge. I probably just appreciate hard golf courses more now than I used to. There is only one thing to conclude: future Giants Ridge trip.
There is the potential for an epic week of golf this fall. With YOTB on September 11th and the Northland event that tron and laz are planning on the 17th. Start the week with YOTB then travel across northern MN all week playing these courses and finishing in Duluth. Im getting married on the 11th so Im fairly certain I wont be able to do it. Someone should do it so I can live vicariously through you!
What is this northland event situation?? I haven’t heard/can’t find it anywhere on here.
There isnt anything about it yet. Its just on the events schedule on the events page. I immediately marked it in my calendar. Northland was really the only details I needed.
If the Quarry is that much better than Stoneridge, I definitely need to get up there this summer! Fingers crossed the mid-players qualifier goes well and I can get up there for a couple rounds in June. I’m still bummed Dacotah Ridge didn’t get further. More people need to get out there and play that one.
I think it is time I finally check off The Quarry, Legends, and the Wilderness this year. This has gone on long enough.
You won’t regret it, I did that trip for the first time last year. The Quarry is the same caliber as the Bandon courses and all the other top US publics.
Living about 30 minutes from Giants Ridge, and taking advantage of the local rate during the week, I’ve been spoiled with getting to play the Quarry a lot and the only other course I’ve played in Minnesota that comes close to it is Northland. Stoneridge is a fun course, but if The Quarry was in the metro this vote wouldn’t be close.
Yeah, Dacotah Ridge I think flies under a lot of peoples radar. I’ve only been there once, and it was windy as hell, but I really liked it a lot. A lot of really fun/interesting shots to hit and the conditions were pretty damn pure.
