Roll Call - MN contingent? (Part 1)

I’m straight embarrassed about the fist pump that followed this made putt for so many reasons.

A fun walk - very grateful for @ajtwenty1 making the drive down.

I went off at the royal yesterday at 10:10. Ran past a few NLU tee’s, which put a smile on my face.

So @munihack7, I would like to retract my take on Braemar. When looking at courses that are in the 60-70 price range Braemar holds it own. These courses ranked from my perspective; Troy Burne, Braemar, Chaska Town Course, Royal, and Edinburgh. ( i might make a case that edin belongs ahead of Royal)

This revised stance on Braemer comes after playing the royal. 2nd time out there and man was i unimpressed. When i played the Royal 2 years ago, it was new and although it was in rough shape then i cut it a break. Two years later and it basically hasn’t changed. The greens were good, but slow yesterday. They do have some fun green complexes and that is without a doubt the best thing about this course. The fairways were in horrible condition, patchwork everywhere and frankly i was blow away at how everything seemed like it was still growing in. The tee boxes were also in some rough shape and pretty uneven. The course layout is ok, and the bunkering is pretty good just really underwhelmed after a two year hiatus.

I have been proved wrong before (see second statement) so I would be curious to hear some other perspective on the Royal. (Also keep you eyes peeled to that housing complex, eventually there will be some great deals as it is clearly over priced and completely underdeveloped. Wonder how that developer is feeling these days as it seemed like it was at 25% built.)

Well @QGorski took me down. 1up in a chip off. Took awhile for him to get warm starting out but hung around the whole match. I was 2up on the 17th tee and proceeded to go full icarito and complete the back 9 ejection. It was a great foursome with @mplsgolfer and @Camilo playing along with us. Definitely would set a 5:30am alarm to tee it up with those guys again.

Live look in on 17:

I would have to agree with you that the Royals conditioning does not live up to how great the bunkering and green complexes are.

Played Royal prob 10 time and have never had slow greens so that’s a new one.

But I still love the course, besides 4 and 14 being stinky I think it has some really interesting holes and challenges different shot shapes, have also always found the crew working there to be super friendly and welcoming. I hate the snobbery and elitism of golf so a mid tier course that caters to everyone is a huge plus for me.

I feel a little scummy advancing because @libraryTryhard absolutely outplayed me all day until pulling the ripcord on 17… that’s the beauty of match play I guess.

Overall though, my first time at Keller was a delight, despite the fact that I could not figure out the greens. Fantastic company only enhanced the experience!

Now take that feeling and add another 56 Refugees in mid-August

Always a great start to Sunday when you get up at 5:00am to meet up with your internet friends for a round across town.

Great walk with @libraryTryhard @QGorski and @Camilo. All good players and good dudes. Thanks again for having me tag along.

Keller played well, though a few of the pins were really tough. One pin was a laugher where I think the hole was cut literally on the top of a mound. Going to be fun for the August tournament.

Great walk @mplsgolfer @libraryTryhard and @QGorski

Playing golf with your friends from the internet isn’t weird at all (My wife disagrees). Will definitely do it again!

Yea, I have heard that slow greens are abnormal so i was a bit confused with that but they did roll pretty pure so it wasn’t really anything to complain about. I also enjoyed the different looks at each hole. Frankly i just couldn’t get over the conditioning, the fairways were brutal, and the patchwork was overwhelming for a $70 round.

I am with you on snobbery. I play a local muni everyweek so i enjoy the welcoming atmosphere.

Played a delightful round at Baker today with @GRWhitehead. We alternated giving away holes through the front, leading to me being 1-up after 10. After watching him put himself in jail off of the 11th tee, I decided to continue the one-upmanship and absolutely hit the ejector switch. He neglected to do the same. He won the next three holes and ultimately and deservedly won, 4&2, while giving me 6 strokes.

All-in-all a great day with a solid gui. I was unable to overcome the overwhelming advantage Guy presented with the full head of hair, but I’d happily get parred to death again anytime.

Not just a fist pump, but a very audible exclamation of “yes!”

Please keep surviving and advancing through this bracket so I can humblebrag about how I lost in the first round…but to the eventual champion.

Good to meet you, @ajtwenty1, see you in August

Jordan tried to lull me to sleep on the range with a “boy my game has been bad” and then twice in the first 4 holes hit fairway bunker shots to birdie position. He flat out stripes his driver through the front as well. As he mentioned the game was trading good/bad holes on front. I don’t even know what I fired but we had some good stuff mixed in as well. Good match with some nerves making things interesting.

Ohhhhh boy, @GRWhitehead vs @tj_denawli in the quarter finals, now that’s a tasty matchup. The savvy veteran against the net match play menace, this belongs on pay per view.

I’ve heard Vegas opened Guy at -125 but expect a lot of late action from the sharps on Tom after a venue is nailed down.

You called it and I’m fully on board now… @tj_denawli has been slow playing us all along and he’s the presumptive favorite. With the strokes he’s getting, watch out @GRWhitehead.

Our “Siiiiiiiiiick Sixteen” round has been completed a week ahead of schedule and we have quite the line up for our next round. In honor of @MerchCzar’s historic WWoG victory at Sweetens and his deep burn of @Soly while closing out the win, this round will be known as the “Eat My Butthole” Eight.

We have some great storylines, including @bignanski still riding that last minute entry a la Big John Daly. Can @kirkeide1 and @LonnieMollo continue their hot play from the Siiiiiiiick Sixteen? And our feature match up of MN Refugees: @tj_denawli vs. @GRWhitehead. Let me know when you start looking at dates gentlemen because I’ll need to attend this match. I have a feeling that @munihack7 will also want to witness his dark horse bet ride those 12+ strokes he’ll be getting against Guy.

Good luck to all and make sure to have your next match completed by July 12th!
